About this item
- WHILE THE USUAL winter faucet covers, fabric faucet socks, and the manual drip method can protect an outdoor faucet IF temperatures don’t drop too low, they often don’t provide enough protection to prevent pipes and faucets from freezing. Blue Penguin’s Freeze Miser PREVENTS FREEZING FROM EVER HAPPENING, no matter how cold the temperatures or for how long - made of sturdy BRASS, STAINLESS STEEL and COLD IMPACT RESISTANT POLYPROPYLENE..Simply put, it’s the solution that you can ACTUALLY count on!
- BUT HOW DOES IT WORK? Unlike the MANUAL DRIP METHOD that requires a CONSTANT RATE of WATER DRIPPING, the engineering of the Freeze Miser releases ONLY the minimal amount of water to PREVENT your faucet from freezing. Its patented design allows it to sense the internal water temperature, ALLOWING NO WATER to drip until the water temperature drops below 37°F/3°C...and that means BETTER FAUCET FREEZE PROTECTION using the least amount of water.
- SUPER EASY TO INSTALL - Faucet protection in just 2 SIMPLE STEPS: Hand-tighten the Freeze Miser on your exterior faucet. Open faucet all the way to ensure that water pressure is available to the Freeze Miser (Minimum 10 PSI). And that’s it – YOUR FAUCET IS PROTECTED FROM FREEZING!
- OUR PROMISE TO YOU - We stand behind the quality of your Freeze Miser with our 2-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY, and we hope you’re happy with the product. Warrantied against all defects in materials or craftsmanship - Your Freeze Miser is proudly engineered, developed, tested, manufactured, and packaged RIGHT HERE IN THE USA!
- AT BLUE PENGUIN, OUR MISSION is to MAKE FREEZE PREVENTION more DEPENDABLE, AFFORDABLE, and WATER CONSERVATION a reality. We dedicated over 6 YEARS to developing, engineering, and testing to deliver a faucet freeze protector that TRULY WORKS. We back your Freeze Miser with 17+ YEARS EXPERIENCE in manufacturing proprietary temperature-activated, ice-prevention valves currently used in the cattle and dairy industry.

- Reviewed in Canada on April 13, 2025Verified PurchaseIt really works. Let me sleep at night during the winter.
- Reviewed in Canada on October 27, 2023Verified PurchaseWe're currently experiencing the freeze/thaw cycles. Warm daytime and close to 0° C overnight temperature. The device works as designed by releasing a small amount of water overnight.
The devices (2 pack) came in a plastic blister pack which was placed into a soft plastic shipping bag. All the corners of the blister pack were crushed! Luckily for me, the devices weren't damaged! The blister packaging did its job but why chance it?? Please ship them in a small cardboard box so that they'll arrive unscathed, to a customer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Peace of Mind
Verified PurchaseThese are great. I used 2 to keep my pipes from freezing over. They only drip at freezing temperatures, so no wasted water or worrying about forgetting to run a faucet or someone turning it off. Easily some of the best money spent to protect my home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Performance
Verified PurchaseI am very pleased with these devices. After reading some of the negative reviews I had been concerned and a bit uncertain about their reliability. I have eight hose bibs in need of protection (home, garage, irrigation water tap and shop building). I initially purchased only two devices. My plan was to test these two and then decide whether to purchase more or to return them if they failed to perform. I will explain below my testing and my reasoning, but after testing the first two, I purchased six more without hesitation. Eventually I tested all eight devices before installing them and they appear to be well designed and built – their weight is heavier than the photos showing the plastic outside would suggest.
Upon receiving them I followed the manufacturer’s recommended testing method. Here’s how it’s done: (1) Place the device in your freezer for about one hour, (2) remove the frozen device and attach it to a hose bib, (3) turn on the water and watch as the water flows through device warming it. If all is well, the water flow should slow and come to a stop as the internal device temperature approaches 37 degrees. All eight of my Freeze Misers performed as they should.
During testing I was concerned about the initial rapid flow when water is first turned on. As described above, each device had been cooled in my freezer to below freezing temperatures. I have come to realize that in actual use, the water will most likely never flow anywhere near as fast as it does in these tests. This is because as the outside temperature drops and causes water to begin flowing (only a drip at first), the water will flow through the device only fast enough to keep the faucet temperature from falling much below 37. Put another way, it will flow just fast enough to keep the faucet temperature above freezing. If a drip will do the job, then that’s all the flow there will be. If more water is needed to do the job, then more will flow.
One more thing to watch for. When the device is in place (connected to the hose bib with the water is turned on), you may possibly see a drip (or more) coming from around the faucet. Check the faucet handle area to make sure the drip is not coming from around the handle stem (the part that connects the faucet handle to the internal parts of the faucet). In my case, nearly half of the faucets required this connection to be tightened with a wrench. The drips were never caused by a fault with the Freeze Miser.
UPDATE: These devices have been in use now for about a week. This morning the outside temperature registered 27 degrees. I check all eight of them. The ones installed on hose bibs connected to pipes coming out of freeze protected areas (home, garage, etc.) were not dripping - it appears they were sensing the warmer water temperature at these connections. The two installed at my shop were dripping very slowly - they were dripping at a rate of about 1 large drip every 4 seconds. The shop is not heated and was my greatest concern. It appears these devices were dripping just fast enough to maintain an above freezing temperature for the water in the pipes. This was exactly what I was hoping to see.
UPDATE 2: The air temperature this morning was 24 degrees. Checked all devices and found two of the least protected ones dripping slowly at about 1 drip every second. The others (better protected) had clearly been dripping as evidenced by the small amount of water and ice on the concrete below the hose bibs. Again, exceptional performance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product…One MAJOR Flaw!
Verified PurchaseGreat solution for anyone who lives in North Texas. We get about a few weeks of really cold weather, and homeowners have to scramble to protect their outdoor faucet spigots. I have tried the foam covers and that really didn’t work well. These worked great.
Why not 5-stars. The part that screws onto the spigot is plastic. That will eventually wear down. It should really be metal. I don’t know why the manufacturer used plastic, other than trying to cut costs. I hope they can release a new version with metal
