I have used pure tube phono preamplifiers for years now, and with my passive stepped attenuator had limited volume control near the highest listening levels. Combining the 2nd output level with one, I get finer control levels.
On its own, it's a nice sounding phono stage, with a smaller soundstage, and more punch in the deepest bass. Treble isn't as extended as tubes, but it wouldn't be noticeable without recent comparison. Locally I found an alternative 5532p dual op amp for the price of $2.43, before tax and tried it out.
The bass is a little lower in level than my tubed stages, but still goes deeper, the tube like shimmer and huge sense of soundstage all around and behind my speakers is back.
The op amp might not suit everyone's taste or speakers, but it was an easy inexpensive change in my system well worth a few bucks and a few minutes added to a trip I was already on for.
