- Reviewed in Canada on June 17, 2021Verified PurchaseGet it if you have a big yard with lots of bugs! I love watching the light show when a huge swarm gets zapped.
UPDATE:
2021 model comes with a control board unlike older units, mine did not survive the record hot summer. RECOMMENDED SOLUTION: Flowtron customer service would most likely replace but it was July 4th weekend.
WARRANTY VOIDING POSSIBLY DANGEROUS SOLUTION: My solution was to remove the control board and hard wire it like older models (no more delay to start or photocell functions, not really sure what else it did).
Some things to note:
1. It is loud some nights, I've had nights where all its doing is constant zapping.
2. Large Moths will sit on the outer shell, small moths get zapped.
3. Attach mosquito lures and change them frequently.
4. Sometimes insects will burn and smoke briefly.
5. Place unit away from structures and populated areas of your yard. This beast attracts alot.
Even with these issues I've encountered, I would still rebuy this unit in a heart beat. No other zapper I've tried has worked as good as the flowtron.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 20, 2023Verified PurchaseFirst year worked well, did the job as advertised. The following season 1 light burned out, replaced that one and the new one burned out, instead of black light it was white which doesn't kill bugs. Customer service was a joke. Just packed it up and there it sits.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 19, 2024Verified PurchaseI was so excited when I received this zapper less than a month ago. I figured anything good enough for an acre would be really effective in my small garden space.
It really worked for the first week or so. I could garden in peace, without being bothered by armies of aggressive mosquitoes. I recommended it to friends, only to discover it was sold out! I thought it was because it was so good.
Now, less than a month later, the light does not come on, and I've resorted to insect repellents to keep mosquitoes at bay.
Sadly, I have to join the ranks of the discontented buyers who wasted their hard earned dollars.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 29, 2016Verified PurchaseI bought this for my dad. He has a lot of biting flies and they seem to love flying into this thing. Delivering a swift shock, it quickly and painlessly exterminates any insect that comes in contact with it.
It's completely silent while running but every now and then you'll hear the satisfying snap crackle and pop of insects hitting the grates while sitting out on the deck enjoying the summer weather. This unit works amazing and is very effective, and the evidence is in the pile of dead bugs surrounding the unit in the morning after an active night. During moth season this thing is a must-have! I've seen this unit attacked by wasps too, so it may be effective at controlling wasp populations as well. Some insects don't make it through the first grating but the bright blue light is irresistible to them and they eventually find a way to crawl inside to their quick demise. Some insects are immediately and completely vaporized on contact, so I set it up away from eating areas to avoid any flying bug debris.
The only cons maybe are the power consumption and the astronomical cost of the mosquito attractant, which is effective, but not completely necessary for most bugs.
It's completely safe for animals to be around... the unit is fairly well protected from anything larger than the openings being zapped.
I recommend this unit if you're feeling helpless in controlling the flying insect problem on your property and are ready to take a stand! I also recommend buying the hook for easy and convenient hanging anywhere on your property.

- Reviewed in Canada on June 3, 2024Verified PurchaseJust plugged it in today, don't be surprised if you don't get much action during the day, evening is when the activity starts. This zapper has 2 slots for the attractant. Comes with one and already ordered more. We have a LOT of mosquitoes and after a quick check the zapper is zapping non stop. Very excited to see the results in the morning. So far very impressed!!
- Reviewed in Canada on August 13, 2019Verified PurchaseI bought the Flowtron thinking it would be a great addition to backyard. It seemed to be well built, and worked GREAT ... for three weeks. I had bought it before mosquito season...and so it was a month before I put it into use. After 3 weeks one bulb quit. Checked to see if flowtron would replace... NO, as it was past warranty. I ordered 3 replacement bulbs as I thought I would put new ones in next year. Turns out it is the socket (s) that are faulty. Very poorly made internals. Now ... NO bulbs work, and I have spent in excess of $300 on a piece of junk.
I will admit it worked great - for a short amount of time. Didnt clog up with dead bugs, and was effective. Now however... it is just scrap . But I do have three extra bulbs if someone wants them NOT RECOMMENDED.

- Reviewed in Canada on June 5, 2024Verified PurchaseSeems to work for mosquitos but not for Black flies, which we have a lot of in Canada. The killing mesh is to wide.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 20, 2021Verified PurchaseThese lamps are fabulous. We’ve been using the 1-1/2 acre size for years now and always purchase them on 鶹. All you need is an outdoor extension cord and a place to hang it. Starts working the moment it’s turned on, usually around dusk. Zaps nonstop without any trouble. Just remember to clean it out once in a while. A little packet of attraction formula can be inserted into the unit, although we find it functions just as well without. The bulbs seem to last forever. We recommend you get the largest size you can accommodate for the best coverage. The smaller ones do the same job, but the larger ones are heavier and less prone to being blown around by the wind. Creates a serene nightly ambience with its neon glow. Extremely satisfied with our purchase, shipping and service. Thank you! Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great way to rid yard of flying pests!
Verified PurchaseI grew up with always having a bug zapper on the back porch. Then I kinda forgot they existed after moving out and starting to do the "adulting" thing.
Then I decided to go outside & enjoy the pool one day after work. After a non-enjoyable 10 minutes of battling mosquitos, I was over it! That, fellow readers, is when I remembered the infamous bug zapper from my childhood.
So off to 鶹 I go.... searching for a bug zapper. And this is the one I purchased.
Environment: waterfront (salt), pool, woods, 2 acres, and in a county with an abundance of horses/stables.
Problematic Insects: mosquitos, horseflys, gnats.
I picked a spot about 20 feet from the pool & deck. Hung the zapper & plugged it in. This took all of 30 seconds to complete. I already had a 6ft wooden post in the ground (formerly housing a birdhouse) that I utilized to hang the zapper. It lit up as expected annnndddd...... nothing. No zapping of bugs. Kinda disappointed.
And then dusk began. I know now that the bugs come out full throttle at dusk because that zapper started to get a work out!
The next morning my son told me that even our garage didn't have the same amount of mosquitos that it previously had! He had heard it zapping everytime he went outside. But be aware, it's definitely bright! You will not want it hanging by your (or your neighbors) bedroom window.
So, after 48 hours it certainly seems to be doing what is expected of it.
While I don't hear much action from it during the day, it definitely attracts and kills the bugs once the sun starts to set. **it also does not appear to disturb my purple Martin's, which I like to keep happy, since they eat mosquitos**
I'm totally pleased with the ease of use and the results. So much so, that I purchased a second one that will be hung at the side of the house.
Anyone suffering from mosquito and fly problems, you should consider taking the bug zapper route before going the chemical route.
I absolutely recommend this bug zapper, especially for those needing the larger coverage area!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works amazing
Verified PurchaseThis is my third one. I have 3 acres and these work great. This time of year is horrible. These last for several years and very sturdy. I do not use the mosquito attractant I do not like the smell. But works amazing without it. Just plug it in and it starts zapping. I have two one in the front and back. Well worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interrupting the mosquito breeding cycle
Verified PurchaseThankfully, this will be the next component that I am utilizing in my attempt to interrupt the breeding cycle of mosquitoes in my yard. So far, so good. Ever since it arrived, it has been working hard and zapping those pesky moths, mosquitoes, and other bugs in the backyard. I will admit, the number of bugs has diminished; it just took a little time. Seems to be working.
