Using a carbon monoxide detector I was able to safely use this in my camper van. My home fireplace kicks out more carbon monoxide. You can definitely use this inside IF YOU HAVE A CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR. It heats well and even after turning it off, radiates for some time. I live in the pacific northwest, so its not the coldest, so this is more than enough for me year round. This is an amazingly efficient little unit. I use a camp stove stand that the propane cylinder fits into so it stands straight up. The legs arent the best, but the body of the unit has plenty of room for securing. If you are going to use this inside, use a detector. If the unit is defective it could burn incorrectly and cause carbon monoxide so be careful.

So I was bummed when I got the unit as i lit it up ans only got very minimal heat even on high
It was so bad I asked for a return
This was given right away to my surprise
Long story short was going to box it up for the return an figured I will try one more time

    To my utter amazement
It worked ( one more turn on the tank )
I didn’t tighten the 1 lb tank enough
Since then like 12 hrs ago it’s been amazing way better then the others( catalytic heaters other other brands I already own
The low setting is the ticket for me
So now I call amazon and apologize all over myself as they started the refund
So I had to pay again happily by the way as it’s no loss to me as the refund is on the way
    great heater

This heater works great after a few minutes of warm up. We use it on our golf cart and found out you have to light it before you start to move and out of the wind. A little bigger than the Coleman Sport Cat.

Was so looking forward to having/using this heater. Live in a van and have a Portable Buddy, but it's just in the way, max 1.5 hours on high, 3 hours on low, and when temps get down to minus 8-10 it just won't stay lit at all. So, I looked at the three 鶹-offered small portables: this Martin, Mr Heater Little Buddy, and Mr Heater Golf Cart Heater. Too bad Mr Heater small ones only have on or off. This Martin looked hopeful with high and low temps, and reasonable fuel consumption. My friend's Little Buddy only gets 4 hours max per cylinder.

Anyway, this one is a dud. First try with brand new cylinder, about half-way screwing on, the hissing started and continued even when finally tight. Of course, strong smell. Unscrewed, and it did a fairly strong pressure blow out with even stronger fumes. Thought I may have screwed on crooked, so tried again, taking care to keep cylinder even while screwing in. Same thing happened. Tried a second brand new cylinder, same thing. Put issue out to buyers, all suggested problem, send it back, etc. So, I started the return process, but it was different than other returns I've done. It came up with a page "we can help you troubleshoot, contact manufacturer, or assist with refund" and "call me" button.

Chose "call me", they refunded me (for which I'm grateful), but told me it's up to me to get rid of it, they will not accept the item back. Bit of pain as I have to now find/travel to a recycle facility that takes this type of item. I also gave it a shot with a third brand new cylinder, but it just hisses away...

I have had a Mr. heater portable buddy which I really liked. It served very well for our over-sized tent for over 3 years, although it did consumed at least 2 1lb propane canisters each night. – yes I kept it run through the whole night. Unfortunately, I found Mr Heater was too powerful for my newly homemade mini camper and I figured that I need something with only 1500-3000 BTU output for this purpose. Since this product fits the bill so I ordered one. It arrived very quickly with intact package. I opened it up right away and gave it a test run.
To my surprise the unit I got is not a brand new one as seller listed. It appears like a refurbished one with some wearing marks. Its front metal rim has the obvious deformation that might result from a heavy knock. My later test confirmed my suspicion—it didn’t give out the bad smell at all that it should have if a brand new product was used for the first time. It’s definitely been used somehow before. To be honest I felt a little bit offended that I didn’t get the product the seller promised.
I test run this guy a whole night and slept in my mini camper. Here is my honest observation:
The good: oh yes, this is a true catalytic heater. It burns very clean. I have a CO detector in my camper. It displays 0 ppm the whole night. Sure I left 2 windows crack open. But my Mr. Heater would easily make it display 45ppm under the same condition. I was so impressed. This unit is well made out of very high quality materials. It feels solid and sturdy. It has no flame at all with only a visible burning red dot in the dark. It burns very quietly without any offensive smells. The electric starter works surprisingly well, even better than the Mr. Heater. The huge safety grilled head is very thoughtful to prevent accident skin burn.
The so-so: the legs appear to be strong but hard to be adjusted to a desirable position. My unit has a mismatch between the tightening knobs and bolt holes and one of the legs keeps loosening up. It gave in for couple of times during the night.
The bad: this heater cannot give out the BTU it promises. It should produce 3000btu at HIGH and have a 7 hour continuous run. My unit had a 12 hour run (still running when I turned it off) with an unknown BTU with the setting “HIGH” -- forget about the “low”, you can barely feel any heat at all. Faulty regulator? Maybe. .. I suspect it only produces 1500 btu or less at “high”. The night was long and I was cold with outside temperature -1 degree C. …. it just was not up to the task at all …. So sorry I guess it’ll wll go back to 鶹 the next day. Oh another thing worthy to be mentioned…. Although the grilled head appears to be adequate for safety guard, I found the metal (deformed) rim that hold the grill was dangerous hot, enough to cause an accidental skin burn. – Considering my unit is only capable of producing half the BTU, it’ll become a really big issue when it output the max it promises. Oh come on, it is a heater of course it’ll be hot, you idiot! OK, you might right… but this is my $0.02, and I never found my Mr. Heater was dangerous….
So do I recommend it? If I can get a brand new unit and with the BTU 3000ish in the end….Maybe, but until then, No.

I purchased this item in 2021 after a deep freeze in the southern portion central Texas where deep freezes are rare. I’ve used this heater about 14 times since 2021 running it about 6 hours at a time as a tent heater.
    I like
    1) that the heater lights quickly with a few clicks of a button - no match required.
    2) The unit has weight - heavier than a little buddy heater. I believe this heater will last a long time. Because of the weight, I do not believe this tent heater is for backpacking.
    3) This heater produces good heat in freezing temperatures. If the propane does not freeze then all items will be comfortable. I did not get hot but survived freezing outside temperatures.

I did NOT like that the round metal ring produces an instant skin burn if barely tapped by a lower leg. I’ve been burned twice. Both times at night. It hurts. This means that you MUST give this Morton tent heater plenty of space so your skin never touches it. It doesn’t burn things. It burns skin. I would like for the engineers to create a thermal barrier around that metal ring you see in the manufacturer’s photos.

I also do not like that the tent heater takes a lot of floor space because it lays at an angle.

I chose this heater because I needed a dependable heater. It is dependable thus far.

I really liked this thing for the first 2 years I used it, it would run all night 6-8 hours on a small Coleman propane bottle, I used this to heat a small 10 x 15 green house for the last few nights 2-3 weeks in the fall to get the rest of my vegetables before they froze, this heater would keep it at about 45-50 degrees at night when I needed too.
I took it out of storage today 9-23-2024 (purchased 3 years ago, used about 20 times ) put it in my greenhouse, lit it, went out side and heard a whooshing sound, went back inside and the heater must have leaked propane out of it somewhere (no, bottle was tight, I check with soapy water for leaks around the seal) there was fire all around the heater, I grabbed a towel and smothered the flame, I checked later and there is a leak out of the housing somewhere by the red knob that is attached to housing , see photo 1. Good thing I was close to it, and able to extinguish the fire, I live in the mountains at about 8500 ft, lots of forest around, could have turned out much worse.
    So it’s not flame less, & it’s a fire hazard ⚠️

5.0 out of 5 stars A Well Performing and Quality Catalytic Converter LPG Heater at an Affordable Price
Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2018
    Verified Purchase
The Martin Safe Portable Gas Catalytic Heater appears to be a superior version of the Coleman Sport Cat of which I have owned 3. I have been using the Martin Catalytic heater for just over 3 weeks and found it's way easier to light. Once lit, usually after a couple of goes with a gas match, it does take 2 - 3 minutes to get to full temperature. I loved the fact that I didn't have to spend ages lighting it to get it going, a great improvement over my Coleman - I am elderly and bending over lighting a heater is not my favourite pastime. I also found the Low setting actually works reliably no fiddling with a sloppy valve - great when you just want to keep the chill out. I like the bright yellow colour especially as it's easier to see on the floor unlike the gloomy grey of the Coleman. The Martin's feet are way superior -stronger with fully adjustable with large knurled knobs ( easy to adjust and lock with arthritic hands). The front guard cage is set further from the heating face giving added protection from accidental burns. The only (minor) drawback is that I wish the heater had an underneath body extension to support the heater when using a 9 Kg LPG bottle with adapter hose which would save having to use a block of wood or spouting down pipe cut to length. I found the radiant heat is great without being harsh and convective heat soon spreads throughout the caravan and and doesn't load up the interior with excessive condensation. My caravan has a grill in the bottom of the door and I keep the shower vent slightly open to keep an adequate through flow of air yet still retaining a comfortable temperature inside. I believe the Martin Safe Portable Gas Catalytic Heater is a substantial market step up in quality and performance from the Coleman models, yet at a much more affordable price. Well done!

3.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a small space but soft aluminum threads
Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2021

I'm very careful mounting cylinders in all my propane products, and I've never cross-threaded one. But this one was sticky when mounting cylinders from the start and got worse even with careful loading. The threads aren't stripped, but I noticed they were shedding slivers of aluminum. When screwing in a cylinder it would stick in a couple of places and not seat without a good bit of force. Since this was getting worse, I am returning it. I'm disappointed because it's a very nice heater, no smell, heats a small space nicely, cylinders last quite a long time. It's perfect for a van, RV, or tent. I've used my Mr. Heater for 10-15 years, no problems. The aluminum mount on that heater is clearly much better aluminum.

I used this for the first time last weekend. Temperature dropped down to about 40 Fahrenheit. I ran the heater for about an hour before I went to bed. It warmed the tent up nicely. When I woke I fired it back up and went back to bed for about another hour. The tent was nice and toasty when I got out of bed. I don't do a lot of cold weather camping, but this heater does the job on chilly nights. Worth the money.
