- Reviewed in Canada on June 20, 2023Verified PurchaseOn buying my mini drone, I felt that I needed something more durable for storage, and incase of travel, it will hold most items I require. The soft case that comes with the fly more bundle, is okay for a day trip, but that is all. Especially, storage for the LiPo batteries, as I now have 5, (4 showing and 1 in the drone). Furthermore, I have read on different sites, that it is NOT, a great idea to leave them in the charger, as it messes with them being “intelligent” batteries. You should search and read up on that on your own.
Back to the case, as it is well made, and sturdy. The locks close with a satisfying tight snap, and the plastic overall seems to be strong, and should give many years of service, and survive most normal drops and bumps (though I do not recommend taking a hammer to test that out). Unfolding the handle and picking it up, it is comfortable to hold, and it does have 2 areas you can use locks on either side. Good for TSA locks if you plan on flying, though you should have your batteries in carry on luggage, and in their own explosion proof bag. The raised lip along the bottom edge is thick, and goes well into the top lid. That should provide a good measure of protection against moisture and keeping the interior dry, and there is a gasket in the lid opening.
Under the handle, you find the pressure release/stabilize dial. I undid it and there is no replaceable gauge/stem, but a hot inserted brass fitting, that looks to be either a M3 or M4 size. Therefore, I do NOT RECOMMEND over tightening the dial for any reason, as you might strip it off the steel threads. I can look through the brass opening, and see the yellow inserted lining, and you probably can release any built up pressing from a high altitude, using this. As for protection by staying afloat, this might be the weakest link, as there is no thin gasket on the dial. I have not as yet tested that floating feature.
The only thing missing, is the ability to use shoulder straps on it, other than using the available lock spots. Then you have to completely undo the straps, to open the case, and if that is all you brought, somewhere to fold and store the strap (minor annoyance). If you are handy, you could properly “McGyver” something securely on either side of the case, so you could use permanent straps. Flipping the case over, it has 4 raised oval “feet” to keep it off the ground, at about 1/8”. You can see the thick metal pins used for the handle, lock, and hinges. Overall, I give the exterior of this case a 4, due to the pressure release dial/valve.
On opening the case, it came with a plastic SD card holder, and a grey elastic drone propeller holder with Velcro. I do not have it on my mini Pro, as you can see, it is currently being used on my regular mini 3. I already ordered another propeller holder for this drone that completely covers the bottom and provides protection for the exposed brushless motors. That way, I can place the drone down if I have to folded and not concern myself with foreign matters getting in or if there is a slight dampness. The only thing missing in the yellow lining, is a spot/openings for extra control handles. They are so small and fiddly, that one can easily drop/lose one on installation, so, I am sure a Dremel or my Fuel 12volt can take care of that, still the manufacturer should of already done or thought about that.
The interior is good and fairly clean. I say fairly, as the large cuts for the drone and controller are rough in some spots. I have no idea if it is only with my case, but they look to be hand cut and not by a machine. I was not going to nitpick with seller on this and one of the reasons for 4 stars, and the other is the pressure dial/valve, and lack of holes for the extra handles. You can see the “extra” recessed openings under the drone and controller compartments, that allow you to keep, ND filters, extra propellers, cables, DJI screw driver, maps, Canadian guideline for under 250 gram drones, etc. As well as the 3 additional openings in the yellow lining, of which one holds the plastic case for extra SD cards.
The lining comes with a cutout insert, for the RC N1 controller, which I took out for using the new RC. Also, I do find the opening to be a tad tight for the RC buttons, so I will probably shave off a tiny amount to the two front buttons area. That way, they do not stay pressed up against the lining. I do like they already have two openings at the bottom of the RC, incase you use lanyard straps and holders, with those M4 threads, ( which I will). Again, I have no idea if they are large enough, as there are 2 basic different types, and will find out when mine arrive in a few weeks for this RC. Using a lanyard with the RC is a good idea, which leaves your hands free, and incase of a emergency, not drop the controller.
The top and bottom lining are partially glued, and be aware of that. Overall, I would give the interior a 3.9, which is fair and still decent. I will have to “McGyver” the interior somewhat, but that is to be expected, as this is an off the shelf item, and not, an expensive custom case. With all I have mentioned, would I recommend buying this case, yes I would, as this overall is a strong 4, but not a 5. Especially, if you can find it on sale, as I did. Oh, in fairness and disclosure, I bought this with my own money, and I wanted a case, and looked around 鶹, and I am not associated with anyone.
I am basically new to using a drone and did a lot of research before buying mine. If you found this helpful, give it a like. Thanks for reading.
