Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone Audio CD – MP3 Audio, Jan. 17 2023
鶹
Knives Out and Clue meet Agatha Christie and The Thursday Murder Club in this "utterly original" (Jane Harper), "not to be missed" (Karin Slaughter), fiendishly clever blend of classic and modern murder mystery.
"A witty twist on classic whodunits... Stevenson not only 'plays fair, ' he plays the mystery game very, very well." -- Maureen Corrigan, Washington Post
Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once. I'm not trying to be dramatic, but it is the truth. Some of us are good, others are bad, and some just unfortunate.
I'm Ernest Cunningham. Call me Ern or Ernie. I wish I'd killed whoever decided our family reunion should be at a ski resort, but it's a little more complicated than that.
Have I killed someone? Yes. I have.
Who was it?
Let's get started.
EVERYONE IN MY FAMILY HAS KILLED SOMEONE
My brother
My stepsister
My wife
My father
My mother

- Reviewed in Canada on February 19, 2024Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseThe title screams Over-the-top until you start reading that...well...yes...OK then!! It IS obviously, over-the-top, but it actually works. And it is so much fun!!
Not-so-happy family reunion at an isolated ski 'resort'. Everyone in the family HAS killed someone and it happens again. A blizzard gets to the point of everyone being stranded at the 'resort' with the required bumbling cop and MANY secrets.
As the backstory(s) is/are ever so slowly dropped into place trying to figure WHO did it gets more concerning. And not just because they're stranded.
From the git-go it's EXPECTED to be a Cunningham because well, it always is. Even the Cunninghams will say so. But who?.
Christie-esque in so many ways!
I'm looking forward to see what happens on the Train. (Everyone on the Train is a Suspect).
- Reviewed in Canada on February 14, 2024Verified PurchaseFirst 13 chapters were long! It was hard to understand what was happening as there was so much content in the backstories of every single main character…and there happened to be MANY main characters.
The complexity to the storyline is fun and intense. Sometimes a bit overwhelming but I feel like overall the general storyline was very captivating.
While I did enjoy the second half of the book, I most definitely had to re read pages and chapters as I found myself lost throughout the book. Something would be revealed or a twist would appear and I’d go “woah, wait, what happened?”.
The entire book I had no guesses leading up to the final twist on who was revealed to be the killer. Definitely kept me on my toes which is always thrilling.
This book would be an AMAZING movie. I think it just wasn’t long enough to not feel “crammed” with information. Still a great and thrilling read!

- Reviewed in Canada on May 16, 2024I read the second one (Everyone on this Train is Suspect) first and it is a practically perfect and fairly lighthearted mystery. Wanted more Stevenson and read this one, the first book in the Ernest Cunningham series. The setting is quite dark, cold, and smelly, and overall it is more of an ordeal thriller, which often are best read when you are in just the right mood. The fraught family dynamics also deepen the emotional investment for the reader. So, if you are in that mental space where that kind of distraction is what you need, this is a good book for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding read!
Verified PurchaseAll the way through reading this novel I was wondering what I could liken it to as it’s nothing quite like I have read before with the way that it is written. The publishers liken it to Knives Out meets Richard Osman. Well, I have never read any of Richard’s books but I have however watched Knives Out so I definitely concur with that one.
The story is set in a remote location somewhere in Australia and the snow is coming down. Got to admit I would never have put snow and Australia together! Am sure they more than likely get some but always think of it as a hot and sunny place. Yes, I know, I obviously need to travel or read up on stuff more lol.
Ern is our protagonist who is a writer. I loved the style of writing in the first person with Ern filling the reader in with what’s to come, reminding you of previous parts as well as parts or words his editor had input on. Now, some of you are probably thinking well that doesn’t sound appealing, but honestly it’s what makes this book so different. Right from the start we know that everyone in Ern’s family is a killer. We just don’t know who they have killed. Of course, it is revealed throughout the story but some still came as a shock.
The Cunningham family certainly aren’t the most likeable of people, yet getting to know more about them was certainly interesting. It kept me on my toes throughout and am sure some readers may spot or work some of the plot twists ahead of them happening but I for one didn’t which made the story even more enjoyable.
Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone is such a quirky murder mystery and one I absolutely adored! It has an Agatha Christie vibe to it as it has that locked room mystery feel and of course any good murder mystery has to have the big finale with all the suspects gathered into a room for the shocking reveal. And this has that and much more. It’s dark yet humorous and I just loved this fresh voice in this genre as it really stands out and has made me desperate to read more by the author. An outstanding read!
