They stole his crown. So, he stole their daughter…

For years Erik, the scarred king of the Ever Kingdom, has thought of nothing but vengeance against the man who killed his father and trapped him beneath the waves, making him a prisoner in his own realm.

Until his enemy’s daughter unintentionally breaks the chains on the Ever, and Erik makes her the unwitting pawn in his vicious game of revenge.

She’s innocent. He’s vicious. But he will take back what he lost, no matter the price.

Unless she steals his heart first.

Welcome to the passionate world of the Ever Kingdom where pirates, sirens, and fae collide with Vikings in a dark fantasy romance between a villain and the innocent princess who holds his heart.

Spice: 1.5/5 Plot: 5/5 Spoiler Free! Perfection. Absolute perfection. I don’t have a single negative thing to say about this lol. Not one. Like nothing, zero. I know, that’s crazy, who am I??! Ha! If you guys have been around here for any decent length of time, you know I have a serious thing for pirates lol. You’ll also know that this book has literally been sitting on my shelf for the better part of a year because I was terrified it was gunna be overhyped and I’d end up disappointed. Well, that was very much not the case. I’m currently kicking myself for not reading it sooner lol. Y’all… This. Dang. Book. Books like this are the reason I love fantasy. The absolutely insane amount of creativity that it takes to create a world like this will never cease to amaze me, and LJ has done such a phenomenal job that I’m completely in love with her work now. You guys, she freaking combined Fae with Norse mythology and PIRATES. WHAT?! She literally just took 3 of my favourite things and mashed them all together and was like, here’s the perfect book for you. I’m in love. Love at first read lol. So we have Erik Bloodsinger; pirate captain, King of The Ever, sworn enemy of the Earth Fae realm and morally grey love of my life. This man is utter perfection and no one can tell me otherwise. I will hear zero criticism on this lol. Then we have Livia Ferus; daughter of the Earth Bender King, feisty, powerful and so dang relatable. I absolutely loved her. Everything about these two was absolutely perfect. The enemies to lovers was exactly right, the touch her and I’ll unalive you, and their arc as a couple were what all of my romance dreams are made of. Right from the prologue they have you hooked and it’s such a beautiful thing. One of the things I loved the most though, and I think needs special attention, is how Livia is plagued by anxiety and fears. Now, I don’t come on here touting mental health reps all that often because honestly most of the time I think they’re way over the top, which gives me the ick. But this, this was believable and beautiful and the way that Erik handled it was so powerful. He doesn’t shame her or coddle her or try to make it less than it is. He reminds her who the **** she is and lets her take her power back. It’s so incredibly good. There’s so many moments that I could just go on and on about too but I desperately don’t want to spoil anything. The plot twists and the cliffy at the end were just so good that I immediately picked up the next one, which really never happens anymore lol. But one of the other things that makes this series so good is the side characters! Everyone is so unique and so well rounded, you just know that their books are going to be phenomenal too. Now the series before this, The Broken Kingdom, is where we get our current characters parents’ stories, is my understanding. After having read The Ever King and now being halfway through The Ever Queen, I’ve met Lidia’s parents and learned so much about who they are, that I really really want to go back and read their story. But not only that, I want to know about every single character. I want all of their stories, past, present and future because each one of them is just so brilliant. So I just re-read all of that… There’s a lot of words but I didn’t really say a lot hahaha. Honestly, the gist of it is that you need to read this book. Maybe my pirate thing is making me biased lol, but if you love fantasy and romance, I truly believe this book will blow your mind! Happy reading my loves! Xo - J P.S. I have 165 notes and highlights. 165!!! WHAT?! That hasn’t happened since Iron Flame (and I adored that book, just so we’re clear lol). Soooo, yea. Go read it lol.

Erik Bloodsinger has been trapped in the Ever Seas since his kingdom lost the war to the earth fae. He has dreamed of getting revenge on the man who killed his father so when his daughter accidentally opens the portal between their realms, he steals her away. Livie should hate the Ever King, but she has been drawn to him since they were children. When she is taken to the Ever Seas, she uncovers a world very different from her own. She knows she needs to find a way back home, but soon they learn that she may be the only person who can save the sea fae from an unknown darkness.

I am so enthralled by the world of the Ever King! The magic system is so fun and unique, and I absolutely love the characters. LJ Andrews’ writing is incredible and she set up a truly captivating world. This story was so exciting and I cannot wait to continue the series. I also cannot wait to go back and read the Broken Kingdom series to learn more about some of the characters in this book. If you love dark romantasies, you need to add this series to your TBR!

"I would burn the world to keep you safe, even if it meant losing myself in the flames."

This quote perfectly presents the intensity and devotion between the MCs, a love so fierce and consuming that it drives every action, every sacrifice. Their relationship unfolds beautifully, filled with heart-pounding moments of longing, whispered promises, and unyielding loyalty in the face of impossible choices.

The world-building is equally spellbinding, with sprawling kingdoms, ancient magic, and a vivid atmosphere that feels both dangerous and enchanting. Each setting is described with such detail that you can practically feel the cold bite of the wind on a battlefield or the warmth of firelight in a stolen, intimate moment.

If you’re looking for a romantasy that will sweep you away with its passion, adventure, and unforgettable characters, The Ever King is the perfect choice.

4.5⭐ Great way to end the month! This is another one I slept on and should have read sooner!

I got the earc from netgalley but I had also bought the paperback and audio.

Highly recommend the immersive experience. While I didn't love Lucy's narrator, 🐍 more than made up for it!

I noticed some minor changes with the text which I actually appreciated.

Erik is the perfect villainous MMC. I love when he wants to hate her but just can't.

Livy is a great FMC. Not too innocent, she had a little bit of an edge and a will to survive.

    So good!

I loved this book! I could NOT put it down!

I took a chance on buying this without reading the Broken Kingdom Series, but I am so glad I took the chance! It was easy to read as a stand-alone and completely understandable but still gives you a good look at the world of the Ever and the Earth Fae!

It has so many excellent tropes that had me eager for more!

If you adore slow burn romances this may not be for you, but if you like fast burn but with depth this is for you!

Absolutely incredible romantasy! I’m completely enthralled by Erik and I find him so enticing! Liv is wonderful and I love that she doesn’t escape from the darkness but accepts it! That’s exactly what I want in the books I read.

I also enjoyed the fact that the love interest’s appearance is a little different from the usual romantasy love interests!

I totally recommend this book! It surely goes into my top reads! It started a bit slow with a lot of world building that I don’t think was really necessary, but when the plot/romance hit, it totally hooked me!

I loved the Fae Pirate theme. I love pirates and needed something different in the fantasy world. Seemed all the stories were becoming the same so this was definitely a nice change. Different take on Fated Mates, that was appreciated.

I loved Livia’s character. She wasn’t weak but wasn’t overly badass like almost all female fantasy characters seem to be. Her power was much the same, mild, not overly dramatic. Erik was awesome as well. Same, not too dramatic in the possessive, broody male fantasy cliche.

Writing was excellent. World and character building was detailed and thorough. You could tell that readers were expected to have read the previous series set in this world, though. There were vague details from the past that I am sure would have made more sense had I read the other series. Grammar was good, though I felt there could have been some breaks in sentences that just didn’t flow correctly and I had to double back and read a couple times to make it make sense.

I felt the plot was well planned out. Did leave you on a cliffhanger. I could predict the book for the most part but there was an unpredictable twist in the end and can’t wait to see if I was right about a couple more things. Well planned story with no plot holes.

Loved it! Can’t wait to pick up the next book and will definitely be picking up the Broken Kingdoms series to get those little details of the past I felt I was missing out on. 🖤

I was already a fan of LJ Andrews writing, and I have adored The Broken Kingdoms series, but this book is on another level of excellence. I was gripped from the start, invested in the characters and their relationships. The world-building is excellent, with no random dumps of overwhelming information. The plot twists kept me guessing and theorising all the way through and I cannot WAIT for March to see how the story unfolds because that cliffhanger has me dangling over the edge begging for more!

Firstly, the characters, their development and growth in this book is just beautiful, it feels so natural and so well-written. Please read the content warnings because these kids are traumatised, there is darkness, there is anger, there is vengeance, but there is also the gooiest, softest caramel centre that I could drown in. Erik Bloodsinger is everything I never knew I wanted, he's a vicious and deadly king of an enemy kingdom, but he's also a scared, hurt, unloved little boy who has had his every weakness paraded in front of his people as a tool for vengeance. His growth through this book, through not only his relationship with Livia, but the revelations of his own past and hidden trauma is just beautiful, and so sad.

I could wax on all day about their beautiful relationship, but really you should just read it for yourself.
If you love morally grey, burn the world for her, hates everyone but her, fatedish mates, anxiety rep, nursing trope, and soooo much more you will love this book.

While I have read the previous series set in the same world, The Ever is a whole new kingdom, so I was not familiar with the lands, cultures, hierarchy etc, and yet the world building was so well done, I never felt overwhelmed with information or that anything that was mentioned was unnecessarily wordy. If anything, you were given just enough information to make assumptions and predictions and then watch them slowly unfold throughout the story which I adore.

All in all I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a fantasy, romance, with elements of spice and darkness because it is just an excellent book. I would recommend reading The Broken Kingdoms to get the full impact of LJ's writing, the way she weaves little hints throughout the stories and ties them all together so beautifully is definitely worth experiencing. This can be read as a standalone, without spoiling much of the Broken Kingdoms, but there are little nuggets of information that just enhance the story of The Ever.
