WAVLINK makes a great product and pretty affordable. I have a number of their docks and hubs. This NIC has one purpose and it does a good job. I wasn’t saturating the bandwidth, but it delivers better than gigabit speed and I’m sure it’ll do 2.5g reliably if I push it.

WAVLINK accessories haven’t let me down yet. If I need a quick network interface I can plug it in; works with my Mac mini, the studio at work and also my mini windows pc; comes with a USB adapter so you can connect regardless of whether you’re type A or type C.

This is a fairly decent USB-C+A/2.5 GigE adapter that's well-constructed and for the most part works as expected without issues; however, it doesn't have any USB-A ports for data (10 Gbps) or PD/charging (100W) that some other models have (also from Wavlink), so you might wanna check them out if those are better suited for your needs. That said, this does have USB-C+A connectors which I do appreciate and I particularly like the fact that it has 2 power/status LED whereas many other others only have a single LED instead, which isn't particularly helpful for troubleshooting purposes.

It's reasonably well-constructed with what appears to be aluminum alloy shell but it's in fact just plastic; disappointing but not a deal breaker. It's fairly compact with respect to its spec although it's far from the smallest that I've come across and tested.

In terms of performance, the speed is decent for a 2.5 GigE link and it maxes out at 2.34 Gbps (~ 292.5 Mbps) which is quite comparable to other 2.5 GigE USB-C docks/hubs that I have. It's completely plug'n'play for Win 10/11 and drivers can be downloaded from their official website if needed; however, driver for this specific model hasn't been updated since Apr/02, 2022.

All things considered, this is fairly decent USB-C+A to 2.5 GigE adapter that's fairly compact, well-constructed, and for the most part works as expected without issues. However, it does NOT any have USB data (10 Gbps) or charging (PD) ports that some other models have (also from Wavlink); check them out if that's something you are interested. It's reasonably priced at $25 for what it provides and its overall physical build quality, usability, features, versatility, and performance.

This WAVLINK 2.5G Ethernet adapter is a major step up in performance and design. I was always worried about my previous no name brand 1Gbps adapter, which ran alarmingly hot and required a questionable Chinese driver. This WAVLINK adapter is far superior in every way.
The design is very clever and modern. Even though it is a plastic enclosure, the mix of a brushed finish with glossy accents gives it a premium look. The smartest part is the connector design. The native connection is USB C, but it has an integrated USB A adapter that nests neatly on top. This allows you to easily connect to both types of ports, making it extremely versatile and eliminating the worry of losing a separate dongle.
Performance is excellent. The adapter easily achieves its full 2.5Gbps speed, providing a significant boost over standard gigabit ethernet. What surprised me was the thermal performance. I was concerned it might run hot given the plastic housing, but after extended use, it is barely warm to the touch. It runs cool and stable, a stark contrast to my previous overheating adapter.
The best feature of this adapter, however, is its plug and play compatibility with Windows 10. It was instantly recognized without any fuss. There was no need to install any suspicious drivers; the system automatically used a Microsoft WHQL certified Realtek Gaming 2.5GbE Family Controller driver. This makes a huge difference in terms of trust and security. There are no concerns about hidden backdoors or software. While there is an option to get a driver from the Wavlink website, using the certified driver provided by the OS is much more reassuring. It is fast, well designed, and above all, trustworthy. I highly recommend it.

Pros:

- The dual connector setup is super handy. You can plug into either USB C or USB A without hunting for a separate dongle or adapter, which makes it easy to bounce between a newer laptop and an older desktop.

- Setup is basically plug and play on modern systems.

- The form factor is small and light enough to toss in a laptop bag and forget about. The cable has enough length that it does not stress the USB port, and the housing barely gets warm even during longer sessions, which is nice.

- The status LEDs are actually useful instead of just decorative. You can tell at a glance if you are negotiating at full speed or just at 1G, and whether there is activity on the line, which helps a lot when troubleshooting network issues.

Cons:

- None to report for now.
