Cuba, mediados del siglo XIX

A la isla caribeña arriba un barco portador de una siniestra carga. Lita, una joven mulata, es hija de Concepción, la mujer que lleva toda la vida sirviendo en casa de los marqueses de Santadoma, en pleno barrio de Salamanca, al igual que hicieron sus antepasadas en la Cuba colonial. A pesar de tener estudios y ambición profesional, la precariedad laboral obliga a Lita a recurrir a los todopoderosos señores de Santadoma en busca de una oportunidad en la banca propiedad del marqués.     Not as engaging as his La Cathedral Del Mar series. Written word and quality of expression is the same, but someone it does not grasp you the same way. Maybe it’s because of the organization- the book tells stories of two women in parallel- one in 1800s and another in our time but even reading 15 chapters there is no clear relationship or even similarity established between their lives or events so one is unsure why these stories are written in parallel. Also switching from then to now every chapter creates a choppy read which disrupts the flow- one just started to engage with the story in 1800s and bam it switches to completely unrelated piece of a story in 2000s…

Bellissima la storia di Kaweka, il suo peregrinare di guerriera a salvatrice. Avvincente la parte di Lita, un po' troppo alla fine incentrata sull'attualità, che ha indebolito il finale, a mio avviso. Belli i personaggi, Modesto non mi convince del tutto.
