How do I check if my security alarm battery is dead?

For DSC systems, the yellow trouble light indicates a system problem of some sort. But it doesn't necessarily mean the battery is dead. Press * 2 on the keypad. 1 is a system problem, press 1 again for more details. At this point, 1 means low battery.

Some alarm keypads have LCD displays that provide a printout with the words “BAT” to indicate the battery needs to be replaced.

Honeywell system displays "BAT" and a number on the keypad at the same time, means a wireless device has low battery, not system battery failure.

Some older DSC models, such as PC1500, PC2550, PC3000, etc., have a potentiometer on the motherboard that needs to be calibrated to the battery charging voltage at 13.65V.

Handy to have around
This battery is smaller than I was expecting. It arrived fully charged and seems to be well built. I currently have this battery powering a 150w inverter which is charging my laptop computer. Not sure what my final use for it will be -- maybe replace the battery in my old UPS? Maybe connect to my solar panel to run the shed lights? I could even install it in a home made battery box to run lights or power ports. Lots of options for small batteries like this, so handy to have around. Edit, I found my usage for this. I pulled the battery from my Cyberpower 450va UPS and determined it's original battery is fairly far gone (almost 100% resistance on a battery tester). This battery received is bigger (4.5ah vs 2.9), and bigger in size so it won't fit inside the UPS, but I connected it none-the-less and now my UPS has a new life. Just to test, I unplugged the UPS from the wall and it continued to power my laptop without a battery and modem/router without issue (no beeping or warnings).
