I'm very pleased with the Teleprompter. It's very bright. It does not seem to dim the light going into the camera as much as I thought. I use a bright lens (Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 on a Sony EV10 II). I've not tried the teleprompter software, but I have other software that I like.
It could be a little bit bigger because I sit farther away from it than my other monitors.

I'll start off with the reason I gave it 4-stars instead of 5:
Setup is a bit of a hassle. It's not plug-and-play like 99% of USB devices these days. Read the instructions twice before even plugging it in. You have to have the software downloaded at a certain time, plug it in at a certain time, and restart your PC at a certain time to make sure the prompter is recognized. If you do it wrong, you may have to uninstall the drivers and software, restart your PC, and start over.

Other than that......

It's a bit pricy, being Elgato, but the quality is incredible. The chassis is mostly plastic, but it's solid. Once you get it going, it's incredibly easy to use. It fits every tripod and desk-mounted stand I have since it uses the same mounting bolt as a camera. Using the Stream Deck app, you can remote control the prompter, which is nice. And, functionally, it gets an A+ from me.

This is the best video chat teleprompter made. If you spend time in zoom, teams, etc… you want this. The software is a lot better than I thought it would be. Works great, but know that the monitor is software driven and NOT a hdmi pass through - good or bad . A couple of minor gripes: It’s all plastic. The way the camera connects makes me a bit nervous. But the real issue is the size. Sure, it could be bigger, but the problem is that you only get about half of the height of the screen to view. If the angle of the screen was adjustable, you’d get the whole size. But, unless you have your camera pointed up, it’s small. My other issue is the lens rings. They include a bunch of them, and it’s clearly VERY well thought out. But, I’m using a Sony camera with an e-mount lens (like a lot of people) and it doesn’t have threads. So, the best mounting option is to use the generic cover, that looks like a 1920’s old-timey camera. All-in, I’d buy this again, but wish I had of waited for the next iteration after elgato collects some feedback.

Wish I read the bad reviews on this earlier and like another said, got hooked on the marketing.

Elgato makes some pretty nice stuff when it comes to hardware (or they did?). I have their mic arm and it's great and sleek (though after one year is starting to form a hairline crack!). The arm is on the pricier side but if the quality is there, it can be worth it. This $400 product is cheap all around and I can tell it's really not going to last - but I can even live with that if the rest of the product is fine and improves my workflow (just ends up being a consumable).

I came into this purchase knowing that Elgato doesn't support Linux so I'm not expecting support there. If you do have Linux, run away from any Elgato products with software. Since I've been doing more graphics print work I'm back to macOS (ugh, Adobe) so thought I'd be fine there! Wrong. Absolutely wrong. Other reviews cover all the issues with macOS (which I read, but thought they might be overstated or fixed in 2025...). Please, pay attention to these reviews.

So other than the hardware being a bit flimsy and cheap, how is it? No USB-C to USB-C cable should have been a warning sign (had a short USB-C to USB-A cable). One of the things that sold me was being able to use lenses with a DSLR. Great, I pull out my 55mm lens, get the 55mm lens fitment, put the camera on aaand, nope, can't get it aligned. Part of this is my Camera's fault, because Fujifilm didn't center the thread adapter to the center of the lens, but ultimately it means it can't align properly using the rig because now my camera is off to the right and you can't fix that by adjusting hardware. Next problem? Everything shifts. If you touch your camera you have to be really careful it doesn't shift because the 1/4 screws offer no way to tighten thing securely (ie with rubber), it's metal on plastic. For bonus points, once you get it setup with software, you can't shift/pad the text only on one side either. This should be a basic thing, I'm sorry.

The thing that really broke the last straw though, is this has a horrible work flow. You unplug this thing (which just acts as an external monitor), and you cannot use the software. That means you can't setup your script and work on timings without being tethered. Elgato doesn't want you just using another display I guess without having this hooked up? I don't know. Maybe they can use it as an opportunity to sell you on the rest of their product line, or require putting in a serial, or something.

Overall, this is a product that represents Elgato cutting every corner it can because it's established a fan base that will buy anything from them even if it doesn't work. They're charing Apple prices but somehow put out a pretty mediocre product.

Honestly, keep giving Elgato a shot, but I think that mic arm must have been a unicorn product from them. They're not going to make anything like it again.

The Elgato Prompter has been an absolute game changer for me! As someone who films a lot of scripted content, I always struggled with memorising lines while maintaining eye contact with the camera. With the Elgato Prompter, I can smoothly scroll through my lines, keeping my focus on my audience. Being able to adjust the font size and scroll speed is a really nice feature and allows me to go at my own pace. When I'm not filming content, it's super easy to use the Prompter as another screen, or to display my chat when I'm streaming.

The initial setup did take me a bit of time as the prompter was a bit larger than I anticipated, but once I got the positioning worked out, it was seamless to connect it to my camera and set it up through the Elgato Camera Hub software.

If you're a content creator or streamer looking to level up your setup, definitely check out the Elgato Prompter. I honestly didn't realise how helpful it would be, and now I can't imagine making content without it.
