This turned out to be a fantastic gift ¨C our 7-year-old nephew opened this gift on Christmas Eve and absolutely loved the snap circuit projects. He¡¯d finish one, get excited about the results (lights, fans, music, siren, etc.) and want to move on to the next project immediately. It¡¯s a wonderful contraption for cultivating reading and comprehension skills (following detailed instructions), dexterity, patience, and even for building self-confidence. If he missed any components during assembly, the resulting structure wouldn¡¯t respond as expected ¨C so ¡®back to the drawing board¡¯ until he achieved the expected effect. We were surprised at how our nephew was immediately drawn into the circuit board tasks ¨C he was so enthusiastic and genuinely excited to build something that lit up, powered a fan or light, or triggered a siren. He said it was ¡°awesome!¡± but more importantly he showed it was awesome by completing ten or eleven projects in a row, immediately after opening it. I would recommend that you don¡¯t just leave a child to figure it out alone, when it¡¯s first opened. I attribute some of our nephew¡¯s excitement to the fact that his uncle spent a good twenty minutes with him guiding him through the initial projects to ensure his success. It really just fueled his enthusiasm and then he happily worked independently and was thrilled to show off the results of each project. The Elenco snap circuits are truly captivating; they are entertaining while offering a unique learning experience. A couple hours after opening it, our nephew matter-of-factly said, ¡®I¡¯ll probably be an electronics engineer when I grow up¡± and then he proceeded to explain how he thought he could use electronics to work in a bank¡­. so it definitely fired up his imagination in addition to stretching his attention span. With these results, it¡¯s easy to highly recommend the Elenco Snap Circuits. Tip: Two AA batteries are required and not included; so if you're gifting this, I'd recommend opening the box and including the batteries so it can be enjoyed as soon as it's opened.

    Great toy for our kids! The concepts are comprehensible and really teaches them about electric circuits in a fun and hands on way. This was a fantastic introduction for our 4 year old daughter - she's loving it and learning something they won't teach her in school for years. There are 101 projects to try so they won't get bored easily. The projects are also designed to expand and challenge concepts by adding more components and comparing similar circuit patterns so the child's mind keeps exploring. The only downside is that some of the pieces are flimsy plastic, like the fan/propeller. If not careful the plastic will easily warp and not work as expected. I would still highly recommend this product for anyone who has kids that like hands on toys.

    I purchased this set for my 6 year old last Christmas and it continues to be the best toy money I've ever spent. My son is at the age where he likes science and wants to build and find out how things work, but he's a little young for the usual chemistry sets, etc. He has spent hours making each of the projects and inventing his own as well. Various family members from 2 to 70 have also enjoyed looking at the finished projects and working together to make more. They are fascinating.

    The instructions are easy to read, and the clear diagrams are understood by my son at an age 6-7 reading level. The pieces are well-made and durable. My son has occasionally lost them in the couch or on the floor and they have handled the abuse, although I do recommend keeping the kit safe just in case. It comes with a nice layout map of where all the pieces go in the box for easy clean up, and to help see if anything is missing at clean up time.

    We have since bought the "lights and music" add on kit and have enjoyed that as well. This is a toy that combines science and family fun. But the thing I like best about it, compared to other science-type kits, is that it doesn't require adult supervision so you don't have to sit there beside them all the time. My son is very independent with this set, which is great since we have three kids and I can't always be nearby to show him what to do.
