I've been using this kettle for a few months now, and so far, I'm pleased with its performance. The kettle boils fast, and the noise level is very reasonable. Just before water reaches the boiling point, the lid opens a tiny bit, then closes tightly again as soon as the kettle turns itself off. Not a serious issue for me. After several months of use, the bottom of the kettle is still quite clean, with no rust or residue. The kettle itself is nicely textured and shaped. You could even call it "cute" or "friendly". Water boiled in it has a pleasantly neutral taste. The lid closes with a loud snap if you just push it down; however, if you press and hold the button, you can close the lid quietly.

This Bear kettle has checked all those boxes and at a very attractive price.
After 30 years of having used a whistling kettle, the auto shut-off / boil-dry protection is a must-have and provides an appreciated element of convenience & safety. Another welcome feature is the cord storage in the base allowing for an uncluttered countertop.
I’ve read quite a few comments regarding ‘noise’; however, in my view, there is no more than an expected sound of rolling, boiling water. Furthermore, the kettle boils so fast, any sound is short-lived.
One improvement might be to relocate the water gauge as it is shaded by the open lid and almost impossible to read while filling the pot.
The kettle was received with ‘spots’ in the stainless steel that I do find concerning as this was never something I encountered with the kettle I’ve been using for the past 30 years. Perhaps this simply speaks to the fact that they don’t make things as good as they used to, or it may be a trade-off of having a nice light-weight kettle.
Overall, I am quite pleased with the Bear electric kettle and fingers crossed the ‘spots’ don’t become an issue that renders it unusable.

1st review October 14, 2023 -- I filled water to the max line + boiled water twice before wiping away water droplets the day after getting the kettle. There was a faint ring of white and beige water marks around the bottom polished plate. Didn't inspect unit prior to cleaning so I don't know if they were always there. Also noticed a small scratch near the spout. This is along the side plate which is brushed. That could only have happened during the manufacturing process.

There are quite a few comments regarding noise. Call me silly but this seems normal with rolling, boiling water that's under pressure in an enclosed space (with a short, open spout at the top instead of a traditional gooseneck). It doesn't last for long and is not overly loud. It's not a deal breaker.

When looking at the advertising pics describing the product, you can tell the inner lining isn't seamless stainless steel. Some reviews mention water droplets on the outside, lower portion of the kettle. Whatever seal used between the two panels is not strong in some units. Seems to be a very rare occurrence based on reviews.

I have not experienced any strong plastic, chemical smells in the two days that I have used the kettle. So far so good with the auto shut off button.

This kettle replaces a Sunbeam HotSpot that I had for around 15-20 years. That unit was made of seamless, brushed stainless steel that was noticeably thicker than the Bear kettle.

I don't expect the Bear kettle to last as long as the HotSpot. I do expect to at least get my money's worth from it (hopefully). I drink a lot of tea throughout the day. I might experience leaks in the future. Rust might appear in/around the scratch or some other part of the unit. Only the future knows. Will update this review at a later time.

Tip: Hold the top button down as you close the lid. Release button when the lid is down. This takes care of what one problem reviewer noted about lid closure not being so gentle.

Update, October 15, 2023 -- The white and beige spots disappeared. It seems you need to boil water and wipe down inner lining at least four times to get rid of the chemical coating I've read so much about.

Update 11/04/23 -- Tip: Noticed a design flaw. After pouring, water tends to collect at the bottom of the spout and the outside portion of the liner. Not drying out the area (i.e., letting it sit for a good while) might cause the rust spots some reviewers complained about. When you unplug the kettle and wipe it down for the night, make sure the spout is dry, too. Leave lid up to completely air dry.

Update April 24, 2024: Have had this kettle for just over six months. I've decided that it's a keeper. Though I have kept it plugged in 24/7, let it air dry without wiping excess condensation first and have left water in it overnight or longer at times. I use it 3 - 7 times per day. No rust has formed and it continues to work as it did on day one. Very happy to have it.

Update, March 16, 2025: I was completely wrong when I said this unit wouldn't last a long time. Have had it for nearly a year and a half and still use it 3 to 7 times daily. I got more the my money's worth with this kettle! Just added the fifth star to the review.

Will update again if I experience issues with the kettle or it stops working.

Tip: If you use only clear water in the kettle, try popping the lid open while the kettle is still hot after you've poured the last drop. As long as there's no water on the bottom, the residual heat will cause the condensation on the sides to dry up as heat escapes. No wipe down required. Definitely not recommended if you place tea, milk, etc. in water as it boils.

I drink a lot of herbal teas or hot water. I spent a lot of time reading reviews. I took a chance on this. The full pot boiled in 4 minutes.

Noisy. But only for 4 minutes. I listen to music or news when I'm in the kitchen or often leave after setting up water to boil. So the noise is not a deal killer. I use only once or twice a day.

Lightweight. Easy to pour. Outside was not hot for me! Their warning about not touching outside because it's hot is to prevent injuries and err on side of caution. But I didn't need to hold it because the handle is very sturdy. Even when filled, the tea kettle is lightweight. And I say that as someone with arthritis in my hands.

I wonder about the stainless steel, like some other reviewers. VERY lightweight and flimsy. So I hope it doesn't rust. Should be better than plastic.

Essential to have the shut-off feature if no whistling! Even when I'm standing directly in front of it, but my back to it, I get so engrossed in washing dishes, cutting up veggies, running the blender, etc, I am totally reliant on whatever tea kettle I use, that it either lets me know with a whistle or turns off.

I used a stovetop glass whistling teapot for years. But something happened this week. It stopped whistling. I realized the cap was off. How strange, I always click it into place.

Somehow the cap melted after maybe at least a decade of constant use. So many negative reviews about that same teapot. Companies are cutting corners like crazy. Read enough �鶹�� reviews and/or go to stores to see a pattern: what was high quality in the past cannot be assumed now.

Time to look into electric tea kettles. I saw them years ago, but was hesitant to spend the money. My glass teapot, which I put directly on top of gas burner, was great. But time to move on.

Finally, I put the tea kettle on the small countertop to the left of my stove. Good fit!

Hopefully, this Bear Tea Kettle will serve me for awhile, not rust or stop working, and I can get on with my life. And the same for all of you.
