These flying insect light traps from brand STEM seem ideal to use, and less messy when dealing with insects in the home. Not surprisingly, they work for ants as well as for flying insects; all seem drawn to their end with these great tools. I find this product hampered however by the need for replaceable sticky slides. I find this is a marketing tactic that bothers me a lot. There should be a way to provide washable, reusable sticky pads in my opinion, particularly for the cost involved, which is nearly $40 for only two lights and two refills. I can find alternatives at the dollar store for a fraction of the cost, but with similar value. I overall do not find that these work any better or worse than those more affordable counterparts, after testing them side by side. Perhaps I am missing something, but the bugs are drawn equally to both. This seems like a very well designed product however, with a lot of attention to detail. 4 stars.

    So it isn't the warmer full-fledged fruit fly season just yet, so my testing is limited to the few I get through the year near my green waste. I think this device is okay but probably not enough for a bigger infestation and more about general year round maitenance.

    Things I like about it:
    1. The design is simple and sleek and not distracting or ugly to look at if you don't mind the blue.
    2. refills are easy to replace.

    Things to consider:
    1. I have had kitchens where the blue of this device would be a real eye sore. Just something to consider if it would stick out like a sore thumb.
    2. Works best when it's the only light source in a room as that is the only thing it has to attract bugs.
    3. Is a fairly simple device with sticky sheets for catching flies.
    4. Seems to not be incredibly quick at catching or effective.

    I've had these plugged in for about 4 days now. So far I see 3 flies on one of these plug ins. My place is infested with small flies so I thought I'd get quite a few. I wouldn't buy them again.

    First as a disclaimer, I want to say that I'm review this at the end of winter so it's not ideal since there's very little flying insects for me to properly test this thing out. I do have some house plants than can attract some flying bugs and there's always some fruit flies but we are far from the peaks we seem when the weather is warmer and the doors/windows are more often open. The device did catch a couple but like I said there's currently very few to catch.

    That being said, I've seen a similar product in use before and it seemed to work well.
    This starter kit comes with 2 plug-in devices and 2 refills.
    I like that the plug can be rotated to fit your outlet.
    I like that sticky pads are double sided (more surface area)
    The light isn't too bright but, for me, still too bright for a bedroom.
    I like that it doesn't use any chemicals so it's pet and people safe.
    I like that it's easy to use, just peel off the film from the sticky pads, insert the pads into the plug-in device and plug it into an outlet.
    I feel like if the device produced more heat it would attract mosquitoes more easily.
    I don't like that a 2 pack of refills is over 12$ and that they need to be changed every 30 days ( or sooner if they are saturated/full of bugs).
    I do like that there's more affordable 3rd party options for refills ( under 3$/unit )

    Please note that I will revisit this review later this summer when there's more bugs with updated results.
