Honderd jaar geleden trok cartograaf Claudius de Goeje het regenwoud van koloniaal Suriname in. Hij maakte er kennis met natuur, dieren en mensen die zijn voorstelling te boven gingen. Inmiddels is alles veranderd: de jungle en haar oorspronkelijke bewoners, de Wayana, verloren het van de goudmijnen. Waren het de kaarten van De Goeje die ten grondslag lagen aan deze teloorgang?

Nog steeds torent een berg die zijn naam draagt, het De Goeje-gebergte, uit boven het gebied. Als kind was Freek de Goeje trots op de berg, maar nu? In het voorjaar van 2022 reist hij af naar de door ontbossing, vergiftiging en geweld bedreigde

Freek de Goeje (1997) rondde de opleiding audiovisuele media af aan de HKU. Hij trok naar de top van het De Goeje-gebergte in Suriname en maakte daarover de film De Toemoek Hoemak Expeditie.
