✅ The EBL C708S3L eight AA and AAA cell charger is a clean, compact and lightweight design that simply charges from a decent USB-C power source. The status LEDs were intuitive to understand. A USB-to-USB-C cable was included.
✅ The included eight 3000 mAh AA LiON batteries appeared physically well made, charged easily and put out in light and heavy loads. They arrived in a hard plastic snap-close dispenser case.
✅ Interesting value. For $30.35 Cdn at the time of this review the purchaser would get a compact, no fuss eight AA cell charger that can manage 1.2V NiCD, NiMH and 1.5V LiON batteries mixed and simultaneously. Additionally, one also gets eight LiON 3000 mAh AA batteries good for a manufacturer's claim of over 1600 charge cycles.
✅ The user manual was well written and in multiple languages.
✅ Product packaging was small and tight. Perhaps around the same bulk of eight 5.25" floppy diskettes.
✅ Manufacturer's limited warranty was one year and there was some 30 day "worry-free rebate" assurance. Contact information was included in the user manual as well as on the packaging (United Kingdom and Spain).

❌ This might have something to do with this LiON implementation of a 1.5V AA battery. While some other LiON AA offerings output a flat and steady 1.6 to 1.8 volts, these EBL AAs put out a varying 1.5. That is, it continuously varies approximately between 1.48 and 1.68V. Perhaps this has something to do with the onboard BSM? Nonetheless, I have not seen this behaviour before. Perhaps something to keep in mind depending on your application. Maybe it does not matter under a fair load.

NOTES:

* No pressure vents were visible at the battery anode. These are sealed design cells.
* A USB-C power source was not included. In 2025 I don't think this is a problem.
* Battery safety was not tested. Time will tell. Store responsibly.

SUMMARY:

There is great value in the compact kit. For example: If you are burning through eight AA alkaline batteries on a trail camera, this kit would pay for itself probably in the first year and you would still have the smart charger and batteries. The only disturbing experience from the product was the rather child-like cartoon character on the battery dispenser case. It looked suspiciously unprofessional.

We all use batteries, especially AA and AAA ones. Just part of modern life. While I applaud the concept and use of rechargeable batteries over single use, I don't think we are quite there yet, unfortunately.

At my age, I've been around for all the various chemistries over the years and decades. From the Carbon Zinc to Alkaline to Lithium (single use) and the NiCad, NiMH, NiZn, Lithium rechargeable. Inevitably though, it seems I'm always left wanting for something when it comes to the rechargeable ones. For example, the lower voltage and capacity of NiCad as an issue, the lower voltage of NiMH as well, the failures and poor cycle life count I ran into with NiZn, some are much better at low drain levels vs high, or vice versa, etc.

When rechargeable Lithium came along, I had high hopes. I tried several packs in 2020 / 2021 of these (also from EBL and others) and was initially pleased. The circuitry in them ensures a steady 1.5 volt output (they claim). Capacity is ok. Charger is compact and can handle other battery chemistries as well. All positive things. But then reality stepped in. When I tried using EBL in an LED flashlight, the light rapidly cycled on and off and the battery got very hot quickly. EBL's response was that the current draw was more than the battery could deliver, so the safety circuits were kicking in. Another brand I had at that time did not flicker, but also got very hot, so I would not call that one successful either. I employed the batteries in other areas, but found the capacity dropping after each use and recharge. By 15 cycles, they were at a fraction of their initial runtime.

One has to be careful as well when it comes to comparing capacities. Typically, Alkaline AA batteries are rated by mAh (milli-Amp-hour) and common capacity is in the range of 2000 to 2500 mAh. (Cheap no-names can be even less, some of the very best can be even more.) For some reason, mWh (milli-Watt-hour) is used as well as it is here. To compare, one must convert units. mWh includes the voltage value which is 1.5. Therefore, you have to divide by 1.5 to compare. Therefore, this 3000 mWh battery is a 2000 mAh battery. This is similar (but a bit to the lower side) of a typical Alkaline battery. Don't be fooled into thinking that you are getting more capacity. However, to be fair, the Lithium battery should deliver its energy at 1.5 Volts right through to the end (due to the circuitry within them), whereas Alkaline batteries do trail off throughout their runtime.

Here we are today in 2025, 4 to 5 years since I've taken a serious look at rechargeable Lithium AA batteries, once again from EBL. The charger is similar, but a bit bigger. A USB cable is included. A plastic case for storage is provided. I put some into an LED flashlight and the light was steady... for about 15 seconds, then it started to rapidly flash. Sigh. I can't speak to performance over repeated charge cycles as I have not had them long enough yet to answer that question.

There are pros and cons to every battery chemistry. Rechargeable Lithium certainly has its place and merits. I personally still find myself waiting for that universal rechargeable AA battery.

Here we have the new generation EBL AA rechargeable batteries up for review. It comes with 8 in a pack and a charger that charges the batteries through Usb C. The batteries have a larger capacity compared to the older model of EBL that I have purchased in the past. This new model holds 3000mah and the older model held 2800mah. The batteries are great and are being used to power up my smart door lock. Batteries are charging well with the included charger and also charge on my other older model EBL branded charger just fine. The included plastic battery holder is nice if you need to travel and bring these batteries on the go. The overall battery life seems normal or maybe a bit better than normal. I’ve only used them a month now and they are holding up very well in every application I’ve thrown at them so far. For $30 and 8 high powered batteries and an included charger I think make these a great value contender in the available battery et options on �鶹��. I would purchase again if the need were to arise.

The first thing I did was to fully charge all the batteries (the instructions don’t say to do this, so I don’t know if that was the best thing to do) and it took about three hours for the indicator lights to go from red (charging) to green (charged). There was very little warmth produced during this process, which I take to be a good sign. Now they’re all juiced up and good to go. They’re working just fine and time will tell how long they hold their charge. The instructions say they will reach peak performance after using 3-5 times. I’ll report back if there are any notable developments. In the meantime, I’m very pleased to have these.
