Purchase options and add-ons
Irish author Bram Stoker introduced the character of Count Dracula and provided much of the basis of modern vampire fiction in his 1897 novelDracula. Written as a series of letters, newspaper clippings, diary entries, and ships’ logs, the story begins with lawyer Jonathan Harker journeying to meet Dracula at his remote castle to complete a real estate transaction. Harker soon discovers that he is being held prisoner, and that Dracula has a rather disquieting nocturnal life. Touching on themes such as Victorian culture, immigration, and colonialism, among others, this timeless classic is sure to keep readers on the edge of their seats! Featuring colorful sprayed edges and a heat-burnished cover with foil stamping, this edition of Dracula is a stylish addition to your bookshelf.

About the authors
Abraham (Bram) Stoker was an Irish writer, best known for his Gothic classic Dracula, which continues to influence horror writers and fans more than 100 years after it was first published. Educated at Trinity College, Dublin, in science, mathematics, oratory, history, and composition, Stoker' s writing was greatly influenced by his father' s interest in theatre and his mother' s gruesome stories about her childhood during the cholera epidemic in 1832. Although a published author of the novels Dracula, The Lady of the Shroud, and The Lair of the White Worm, and his work as part of the literary staff of The London Daily Telegraph, Stoker made his living as the personal assistant of actor Henry Irving and the business manager of the Lyceum Theatre in London. Stoker died in 1912, leaving behind one of the most memorable horror characters ever created.

- Reviewed in Canada on December 21, 2024Verified PurchaseDracula takes the reader through an adventure through the written words of several characters, as they piece together the menace that has invaded their land, his plans, and how to defeat him. The diary entry format gives this story a detective feel, and there is plenty of vivid detail. Recommended for lovers of folklore and myth.
- Reviewed in Canada on August 23, 2023Verified PurchaseMy book 📕 had been torned a little bit in transit but it’s ok, no big deal! 🙂It’s a nice book,I love reading horror stories and I know that Bram Stoker is a Master for writing spooky stories so, yeah! Dracula is a Classic and I will enjoy each and every pages of this book.
- Reviewed in Canada on February 23, 2025Verified PurchaseI bought the book to read the actual story Bram Stoker wrote. I was familiar with the Count Dracula movies and wanted to know the actual tale.
- Reviewed in Canada on December 27, 2024Finally finished this book!
What I liked:
- Historical references describing every day life in Victorian England. I was even surprised they had recording machines! The phonograph, they called it.
- The expanded vampire myth that closely follows what was first established in Carmilla. Like the slow process of turning someone into a vampire that made it look like an incurable illness and the breaking of the curse by unsubscribing the vampire responsible from existence.
- The gloomy atmosphere was pretty well done; everything seemed tense and eerie.
- The fact that it’s a classic, and about vampires even though there is more searching and attending sick women and chasing said vampire than there is actually vampires!
Since all of these are pretty strong points for me, it gets the three star rating, even though the negatives seem to be greater in number, it’s just things that pished me off and that others may look over.
What I disliked:
- The way there was SO much unnecessary information that it should have been a novella. It drags and drags on and on so much that at some parts I just had to gloss over it because it gave me no new information and was not interesting whatsoever. A lot of info is needlessly repeated.
- Everyone’s in love with Lucy and they all cry about it like teenagers …???
- The rampant s-xism, even though the male characters don’t intend it to be demeaning, it still is. Every woman in this book is treated like a poor, sweet and innocent child, sometimes even referred to as one. Sir, nobody wants to marry a child, thank you.
Here’s a prime and highly cringe worthy example of this, written by Mina, of course: ‘How can women help loving men when they are so earnest, and so true, and so brave!’
Mister…. MISTER. I know you liked men a lot, but please I’d kindly ask you to stop.
- The Dracula and Mina romance was made up by Hollywood to make the story more interesting and I wish it wasn’t the case. There is no new found humanity within the Count so there is zero character development nor turning point for him (except that he’s being chased, but that’s not that interesting).
- Lastly, the letter/diary format which I REALLY dislike!
- Reviewed in Canada on July 2, 2023Verified PurchaseI had always wanted to read Bram Stoker’s Dracula and I’m so glad I finally did. It’s far creepier and darker than any of the movie adaptations, with so much more detail in the book. It’s written so exceptionally well. I find I’m usually not able to put it down until the wee hours. Makes a great read for weekends, days off, outside summer reading, or winter reading when we’re sometimes cooped up inside. It’s just a perfect read and I couldn’t recommend it more to horror fans. It’s become one of my all time favourite books that I have ever read. It will be a book that I will be sad it’s over once I make it to the last page.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love this series of books!
Verified PurchaseI've wanted to buy "Dracula" by Bram Stoker for years, but it wasn't until I found this edition that I actually did it. It's a lovely, luxurious feeling to the entire book, but I have to agree with others: the print is fairly small and a little hard to read and therefore I give this book one star less than the maximum.
