The Doors

180g vinyl debut album by the American rock band The Doors. Originally released in significantly different stereo and mono mixes, the album features the breakthrough single "Light My Fire", extended with a substantial instrumental section mostly omitted on the single release, and the lengthy song "The End" with its Oedipal spoken-word section. The Doors credit the success of their first album to being able to work the songs out night after night at the Whisky a Go Go and the London Fog.

    I have frequently seen the "overpriced" Japanese import CD's since I started using the internet in the 90's, and have always wondered what the hype was about. After making some big oil money, I decided to splurge and purchase this as my first one, since I have always liked the Doors, and recently bought the equipment to play SACD and make it sound good too. The entire package reeks of quality, from the 40th Anniversary liner notes to the superb audio, and having the little Japanese inserts just adds a little something special to the whole experience.

    As for the album itself, I won't go into detail reviewing it, but will say that it ranks not only in my top debut albums of all time, but also in my top albums period. The SACD and price tag are probably only worth it if you're a music buff and love the Doors, but if you are, then by all means....

    I believe they are or already have recently released the Doors catalogue in SACD remasters, which would bring the price down drastically as they aren't Japanese exclusives anymore. And when I say catalogue, I mean the good stuff!

    The Doors set the bar very high on their Electra debut released in January 1967. It is arguably their finest album. This remaster presents excellent definition in the stereo mix. I have not heard the mono version of this LP. The Doors made a lasting impact with their raw psychedelic-blues approach to these songs. They were psychedelic without being trendy and bluesy without being purists. They were true pioneers on the underground scene along with lable mates Love, Paul Butterfield, MC5 & later on the Stooges. This is an essential & timeless 60s release and one of the strongest debuts by any rock band .

    von niemand anderem als Bernie Grundman. Zumindest hoffe ich, dass ihr diese erhaltet, wenn ihr hier bestellt...
    Es gibt mehrere Vinyl-Ausgaben hier auf amazon.de. Diese ist die günstigste für knapp über 20 Euro. Die wird mir zuerst bei der Suche auf dem Smartphone angezeigt. Auf dem PC gestaltet es sich fast schwierig, sie zu finden. Da finde ich eine 180g-Pressung, deutlich als solche beworben, für drei Euro Aufpreis. Zurzeit muss ich ein wenig sparen und entschied mich für dieses Exemplar, in der Hoffnung, dass es keine polnische "Takt"-Pressung ist, oder ähnliches, was kaum Hörvergnügen bereitet. Also was habe ich erhalten? Als Release-Date wird 1996 angegeben, ich erhielt jedoch eine 2021er Version gepresst von Optimal in Deutschland. Sehr geringer Geräuschpegel. Wer hat die Matritze geschnitten? Das war Bernie Grundman, der sich im Runout mit seinem BG verewigt hat.

    Habe auf discogs.de wenige, aber dafür auch wenig gute Rezensionen gelesen, die ich ABSOLUT NICHT bestätigen kann. Hervorragende Ausgabe, klanglich kaum zu toppen.

    Wenn ihr jetzt (September 2023) bestellt, dann bekommt ihr die sicher auch. Leider gibt amazon aber kaum bis irreführende Infos zu den Releases, es sei denn, die Scheibe wurde gerade erst veröffentlicht. So ist es immer Hoffen, meine Hoffnung wurde diesmal (über-) erfüllt. Das letzte (L.A. Woman) und das erste Doors-Album waren für mich immer die Meilensteine, das wird mir auch noch einmal durch diese hervorragende Optimal-Pressung bestätigt. l.A. Woman habe ich in einer deutschen Erstausgabe, die immer noch recht preiswert zu haben ist und ebenfalls großartig klingt.

    Hype-Sticker und Labelaufkleber sehen altbacken und billig aus, aber es geht ja um die Musik. Klare fünf Sterne, Cover ist auch gut.

    鶹 könnte sich ein wenig mehr Mühe geben, einen Hinweis auf das jeweilige Release zu geben, Platten auch kartonsparender einzupacken (Original Vinyl-Karton reicht, warum noch einmal in XXXXXL-Karton verpacken??? Ach ja, wegen der "audiophilen" Neurotiker...), aber hier bekommt man für relativ wenig Geld ganz, ganz großes Kino. Klare Empfehlung!!!
