This meter measures the signal level coming in. To power it the line connected to the lnb MUST be connected to the side that says to receiver. The receiver must be powered on preferable on a 18v or 19v transponder.

The other side you'll need a small correctly made satellite grade coaxial cable. Connect that to the lnb at the dish. You'll still get zero signal, that's why you bought this. You'll need to find the cortext settings for your dish. Then slowly move it until you get any signal. To test the meter without a satellite signal, find a portable florescent flashlight. Aim that light directly into the lnb. You should notice a increase or decrease on the meter. If not adjust the signal sensitivity knob, until you have the meter reading 50 percent. That's 0 percent, at least you'll notice when you get a signal. Even from a flouresent lamp. Not cfl, tiny full spectrum tube.

There's a technique to using this. If it's not working right, you're not doing it right or you received a defective one. I use the analog meter version of this for year. I've also got a diffrent $150 european digital one. Advantage to the digital one is that it auto adjusts signal level senaituvity. Has a fantastic tone audible.

Ok worked well, but i prefer the analogue models. Problem was that the signial strength would jump around too much without even moving the satallite 0 ie 55%, 59%66%53%. I don't experience this issue with the analoge meter which exhibits a more stable signal. Still it worked, but just a bit too skiterish for my liking.

Tip: Adjuster the gain before you connect it to you dish. What i mean is connect it to the satallite box cable, to give it power, than adjust the gain until the point where it feels like your just about to get a signal (ie 1%-2%) and then connect it to the dish.

2nd Tip - your satallite box's signal finder abilities don't actually work until the box is "activated" so if your box has not yet been activated *which requires a signal) you'll waisting your time trying to dial in the signal with your box - it will keep saying no signal even if you've got it aimed perfectly - it won't acknologe the signal until the box is activated from the dish provider. This is how they suck a lot into the pro install - cause you cant activate the box until you get a sitnal, and you can't get a signal by using the box until it's activated - basically requires you to already have a perfectly aimed dish, get a satallite signal finder like this one, or pay for pro install.

If you don't see a signal, you are probably on a dead transponder. This is way better than the analog ones that we used to use in the 90s. I used this for my dish at my cottage and I was able to fine tune the signal within minutes. Make sure you are aiming the right side of your twin LNB. I covered one side with duct tape to make sure Im catching 91 nimiq on the correct side. Once I found 91, I skewed the dish and got 82. Two TPs are dead on 82 so switch to a live transponder. I have a bell 9400 receiver with a twin DPP lnb.
