This is a tough one. After hours of research I bought this Deity mic for filming YouTube videos as an alternative to a lav mic. So far it performs better than the built-in mic in my Samung Galaxy S23 Ultra, but it is not as good as the $15 corded lav mic I'm trying to replace. If I hold the mic at arm's length or closer the sound quality is very good - clean and clear with nice tone. But almost any mic can claim that. I guess that's fine for handheld vlogging but that's not suitable for me. I can't use a boom in my videos so the mic needs to be camera mounted on a tripod. Anything past a couple feet away and the sound levels drop and recordings are almost unusable past 5-6 feet. Especially outdoors.

I'm still undecided if I will keep or return this. I still like the size of it and the build quality seems good. I just don't think it will suit me well. It also really needs a case, and I think there should be one included for the price.

I just ordered a larger and more expensive shotgun mic. I will compare to see if it's better.

For reference, it was plugged into my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra using an Apple 3.5mm to USB-C adapter. No issues there.

I had high hopes for this mic, gave it a lot of field tests in all type of weather and conditions but after trying to record my last video on a nice sunny day, I'm just so over it.

ANY little bit of wind, any light breeze, or any movement will create a constant low rumble from wind with high spikes in between. It's almost completely useless and I don't get how they could even make a product like this and call it a "run and gun", you can't even walk with it without completely destroying the audio.

Not only that, but if you're using it with your phone, get ready to drain your battery faster then ever.

I tired the different cables it came with and it makes no difference.

The sound quality is so much better than the internal mic on my cameras. While it draws power from the cameras, I don't notice any quicker degradation of the batteries. It's small so it's easily packed in my camera bag. I love that it has both input and output jacks to use for other connections (like a Rode wireless mic). The dead cat wind supressor is durable and somewhat heavy for it's size, but it works well. It does't seem to muffle the sound.

I originally thought of this mic as something I would need to upgrade later, but I don't see a need to replace this until I break this one somehow.

I use this mic attached to a mic stand to make Youtube videos in my garage. Placed correctly I am able to minimize the loudness of the room and capture my voice loud and clear. It fits great on camera, and there isn't any detectable hiss or other noise. The dead cat works well when I'm out and about and overall its just a nice grab and go mic if that's your thing. I usually have it on a mic stand though and its positioned as close as possible while staying out of frame. Works great for me, and is likely worth a try for anyone else!
