Product description
The vigilante is back—with a vengeance! Superstar Charles Bronson (Death Wish 1-3) blows the drug underworld wide open in a blazing quest for justice and revenge in Death Wish 4: The Crackdown. Haunted by his violent past, Paul Kersey (Bronson) struggles to forget the brutal deaths of his loved ones—and his obsessive one-man battle to avenge their murders. But when a dose of toxic “crack” kills the young daughter of his new girlfriend (Kay Lenz, Breezy, House), Kersey again becomes the infamous urban vigilante. Vowing to wipe out the entire cocaine network of L.A., he skillfully lures two vicious, competing drug empires into a bloody turf war. But there’s a sinister force behind the scenes (John P. Ryan, Runaway Train) with his own diabolical plans for Kersey in this powerhouse action-thriller, which marks the seventh team-up between Bronson and legendary director J. Lee Thompson (The White Buffalo, Murphy’s Law).

- Reviewed in Canada on March 5, 2011As I set out to acquire all 5 of the "Death Wish" movies I soon learned that doing such through the 鶹.ca system was my best bet to accomplish the task. I am happy to report that through direct purchase from 鶹.ca I was able to purchase "Death Wish 2" through "Death Wish 5" all at a reasonable price. Theyu were ordered, and all 4 arrived in excellent condition. I found "Death Wish" through another avenue of purchase, and it too arrived in excellent condition.

- Reviewed in Canada on February 23, 2003i can't understand why the reviewers of Bronson films think it necessary to trash the people who actually like to watch Bronson. you know, i love his movies because they say a lot of things i wish i could do in real life. everyone wants to get rid of people they hate and since killing is illegal and i have a rational mind, i can watch Bronson films and get out my anger at somebody through his mass killings of street scum and corrupt public officials. i don't see the harm in the genre of films Charles chose to link himself with. Death Wish and all it's sequels are designed strictly for that kind of audience that gets thrilled and excited watching someone do things that can't be done in real life without suffering the consequences. Charles' character never goes to prison or is never seriosuly pursued by the police...BECAUSE Bronson is doing what the POLICE wish they could do to crooks and the PUBLIC loves what Bronson's character is doing. that's the message that his mid '70s to mid '80s movies set. i say, what's the harm in an actor giving HIS public what they want and all you have to do is look at the box-office, not the critics. 90% of his so-called "bad" movies, the ones that critics scathe and tear apart, were huge money makers and that's the bottom line. to say Charles Bronson's career wasn't popular and appealing is a lie...he's the "common man"'s hero but my no means does that make his fans vigilantes...we just get excited watching bad guys get what they deserve and Charles vents our frustrations for us in his movies. it's as simple as that. Death Wish 4 is based on a murder and the fact that red tape and procedures get in the way of solving cases. vigilante films, like the wonderful Death Wish series, are limited in originality due to the very fact that it's a vigilante film. you can't get too original with that premise, can you? so that's why we don't mind that the series is all the same sort of plot, we get a kick out of the many ways Bronson shoots the bad guy and the different sort of guns he might use.
- Reviewed in Canada on February 27, 2004Could Paul Kersey be the most unlucky character in movie history? Every Death wish film that premiered makes it harder to contradict that claim, and this movie is no exception.
Death Wish 4 is a movie in which the protagonist, who turned vigilante after his daughter was raped and his wife killed in Death Wish, is getting close to the routine of a normal life at the start of this film. He has a steady girlfriend whose daughter wants to be an architect, her works are not great but, "pretty d*mn good." But it seems it wasn't meant to be, the poor girl was given some very lethal cocaine and had an overdose. Soon after, Kersey is hired by a man who supposedly had a similar experience with his daughter and wanted Paul's, "services," in taking out successful drug dealers.
This movie manages to be very different from the original Death Wish formula, Kersey is far from the slums, and rather than defending himself by capping muggers he's actually seeking out drug lords, and then capping them. Somehow over time, he has become a professional hitman. Think of the movie as DW2 in a more sophisticated environment and with drug dealers instead of rapists.
Those who cringed at the rape scenes in previous films can feel a bit more relaxed, there are no completed rapes in this movie. I say no completed rapes because the movie opens with a dream sequence of a near rape, but rest assured Bronson saved the damsel in distress.
The movie also features some memorable lines for Bronson/DW fans, like when a rich drug dealer finds Kersey in his kitchen and demands to know what he is doing there. Kersey responds in a way that sounds almost sincere, "I was making a sandwich." I won't reveal any more details for fear of ruining the story for you but I will say that you might think twice about telling someone to drop dead.
I give Death Wish 4 four stars (no pun intended). The one star is deducted for simply being too short.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bronson: The answer to the war on drugs
Verified PurchaseAfter the World War 4 that was Death Wish 3, one can only imagine what would be on tap for Death Wish 4. One might be pondering if Death Wish 3 was World War 4, what happened to World War 3? Death Wish 3 was so violent that it was World War 3 and 4.
As for "Death Wish 4: The Crackdown" this movie finds Paul Kersey (Bronson) in Los Angeles, the prior film took place in New York. Paul is now involved with his girlfriend, a news reporter, and appears to be living a good life. This moment doesn't last too long when his girlfriend's daughter Erica dies of a crack-cocaine overdose.
Now this being a Death Wish movie and this movie featuring Charles Bronson, you can only imagine where things go from here. Kersey/Bronson finds the drug pusher who gave Erica the smack and blows him away. Then a day later a morning father who lost his daughter to drug use approaches Kersey/Bronson about wiping out all the drug dealers/pushers in L.A. After some short consideration, Kersey/Bronson is back to his old tricks fighting the scum of the world.
I found Death Wish 4 to be vintage Bronson and doesn't fail providing plenty of action and one liners. There is a scene where Kersey/Bronson is caught breaking and entering in a drug lord's home (who also happens to be a baritone, go figure). When the drug lord asks why Kersey/Bronson is there he replies "I was making a sandwich". I love this stuff!!
This movie also provided some twits that were sort of surprising for a Death Wish flick. Another thing I like about this "low" budget movie is that the special effects look better than many movies made today. Mainly because cars are really flipped over, buildings are really blown up; you won't see any CGI here!!! As for the acting, at a core level it isn't really any worse or better than what is offered in modern movies.
As always Bronson delivers an amazing performance as Paul Kersey, the angel of death. The only feature on the DVD is the trailer/preview for DW4. It would be nice if the DVD had a little more meat on it, but at least this movie has been put on DVD. So if you ever walk into your house and see Bronson making a sandwich let's just hope it isn't a knuckle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Charles Bronson - Weil selbst Chuck Norris etwas zu fürchten braucht!
1985: Death Wish III – Der Rächer von New York (Death Wish 3)
1986: Murphys Gesetz (Murphy’s Law)
1987: Der Mordanschlag (Assassination)
1987: Das Weiße im Auge (Death Wish 4: The Crackdown)
1988: Das Gesetz ist der Tod (Messenger of Death)
1989: Kinjite – Tödliches Tabu (Kinjite – Forbidden Subjects)
1994: Death Wish V – Antlitz des Todes (Death Wish V – The Face of Death)
1960: Die glorreichen Sieben (The Magnificent Seven)
1963: Gesprengte Ketten (The Great Escape)
1967: Das dreckige Dutzend (The Dirty Dozen)
1971: Chatos Land (Chato’s Land)
1972: Kalter Hauch (The Mechanic)
1973: Ein Mann geht über Leichen (The Stone Killer)
1974: Das Gesetz bin ich (Mr. Majestyk)
1974: Ein Mann sieht rot (Death Wish)
1975: Der Tag der Abrechnung (St. Ives)
1977: Telefon (Telefon)
