DANIEL SMITH Ultimate Mixing Hand Poured Watercolor Half Pan Set of 15 colors with 2 BONUS plastic travel cases and 15 empty pans (total 32 pcs) With this 15 color mixing set, the challenging process of selecting a useful, versatile range of paints has been done! “Whether the aim is to paint botanicals, landscapes, urban scenes, animals, portraits – or any other subject – this set of fifteen colours will enable you to mix all the colours that you need. The fifteen colours used in this palette showcase the many characteristics of watercolour; some are transparent, some are opaque, some semi-transparent, some staining and some granulating. Some have two or even three of these characteristics. They are also largely single pigment colours, and they are carefully chosen to intermix, creating a world of colors.     I read many reviews before purchasing this item so I expected to be less than impressed with the case. I transferred mine to a different case. The case is actually not that terrible if you open it from the side corners. It is almost impossible to open from the centre. The pans were full. I am completely satisified with this product. The price was also cheaper than any art supply (online or brick & mortar).

    I love Daniel Smith paints and this is a very nice choice of colours.
    BUT, the cases are not good and definitely not for travelling with as the pans all fall out or stick to the lid.
    I find these boxes very awkward to open... Adding to the issue of little cubes of paint flying in every direction when I do eventually pry it open.
    Considering how much tubes of 5ml paint cost this set is very expensive, it was on offer when I bought it (I would not consider paying £65-£70 for it)
    Anyway, the set is fine, but I would recommend buying a little empty meeden tin, some empty half pans, then buy 5ml tubes in the colours you want... Far better value that way

    I bought this set to prepare for Jane Blundell's online 'Mastering Watercolour' course. The colours are vibrant, super-pigmented and lift easily with very little water. Most of the colours are transparent and mix together beautifully. I'm confident this set will keep me going for some time, but I also like the idea of using the extra empty palette to store additional colours when I'm ready to explore further.

    I've read reviews that have been negative about this set because it doesn't include mixing wells. I find this a non-issue. At home, I'm mixing using cheap white plates from a thrift shop. Perfect! For out-and-about, I'm thinking of getting a cheap empty tin (with mixing wells) and transferring colours, as needed. A bit fiddly, but not a big deal. I'm happy with the trade off given the quality of these paints.

    This set is excellent value for money for anyone beginning to explore watercolour seriously.
