Heavyweight paper good for marker drawing. No bleed through

Heavyweight paper good for marker drawing. No bleed through
I’m not a watercolour artist, but I do know the value of these small pads of heavyweight paper that has a bit of tooth to it. What they provide for me is a background on which to practice and hone the art of drawing and colouring in a variety of media from pencil sketching, to coloured pencils; oil pastels and chalk pastels; water-based, alcohol-based, and acrylic markers. I am currently most interested in finding paper heavy enough that markers will not bleed through. These drawing pads are perfect for that. They are also a good size for quick marker sketches that will allow me to practice regularly without taking up too much time. I tend to fill whatever space I am given, so larger paper results in larger drawings that take longer to complete. Secondary to that, I know that the “toothiness” of this paper will be good for oil pastels (though it’s a bit harder to create a good pastel drawing in such a small size). I have to say that I love that this set includes six little brushes. They would be great for kids, if that’s who you are buying this set for. Personally, I will get use out of them because I do a lot of crafts that require brushes and it’s always nice to have a brand new brush to use, whether or not it’s the best quality. (As long as the ferrule doesn’t fall off, I’m good.) If there is one negative I could mention it’s that the spiral binding doesn’t seem quite sturdy enough for the weight of the paper. Likewise, the front cover seems flimsy, especially compared to the sheets within. But this set still gets 5 stars from me for the quality of the paper and the perfect size of the pads for drawing practice.

For the price, these paper pads are good quality and great for practice for those starting out. You get 3 pads and the paper is thick and has perforated edges to tear off. The paper is thick enough that you can paint on it and not go through to the next page. The brushes are as expected, cheap. Fine for some basic stuff but I'd invest in better brushes if you're giving a gift or serious about starting out. I think of them more as a bonus than included in the price. They're the dollar store type which can be fine for some purposes.

This package includes three booklets and six brushes. There are three small round brushes and three square brushes of the same size.

I tested the paper with the provided brushes and with my own. The paper is heavy enough to apply paint on both sides of a page. The pad is useful for colour swatching, experimenting with colour selection, and practicing painting. However, the paper is not very absorbent, so it’s not suitable for making a good watercolour paintings. Regardless of the artist’s skill level, watercolours are best applied on quality cotton or rag papers that absorb and hold water.

I tried making a couple of paintings using the brushes provided, but they’re not watercolour brushes and shouldn’t be sold with this package. The brushes don’t hold water, which is needed in watercolouring, and prevent the user from practicing watercolour techniques, such as washes, graded or variegated washes, or glazing. This will lead to frustration for anyone starting out in watercolour. One interesting aspect of the brushes, though, is that I found the square brushes useful for lifting paint from the paper. This lifting technique, often used in watercolour painting, is desirable because it allows for the retention of some of the paper’s white areas.

If you’re purchasing this set to gift to a learner, be sure to replace the brushes with those specifically designed for watercolour. While the paper isn’t ideal for achieving good results, I found it useful for experimenting while using my own proper watercolour brushes.

As noted in the samples I provided, I used the provided brushes only for the swatching page. The other samples were done with my own brushes. And even with my brushes, the biggest challenge was in trying to blend the colours on the paper. I also played with using a black pen to outline some shapes and mostly tried to stick to one or two layers.

Overall, the watercolour pads are good value for beginners to get started with watercolour painting and not have to use more expensive, higher quality watercolour papers. The brushes are not useful and will be very disappointing or frustrating to use. One star taken off due to the poor brushes.

The watercolour paper found in these books is a good thickness and the size is great for small paintings or if you fold them into half, make for some great hand-painted cards. The paper has a slight texture, not too pronounced, which I prefer.

As for the included brushes, they are okay, really basic. Not sure if I’ll use them as I have better ones already. See them more as a bonus add-on than what you're paying for which are the books.

The 3-Pack of Water Colour paper is a great value - at 19.99 that's basically 6 dollars a book! Plus, you get brushes included. The paper is 300gsm cold-pressed, which is very decent for water colours! This pad is definitely good to start learning water colour on, before delving into expensive pads. It absorbs water fairly well, without massive buckling.

The brush quality is okay, but they could be better - but the main point is three books for a great value i think!

I’m so happy with this DagouColor watercolor pad set! The paper quality is excellent - the 300 gsm cold-pressed sheets are thick and absorb the paint beautifully without warping. It’s a great size for on-the-go sketching or painting, and I love the convenience of the spiral binding for easy flipping.
The acid-free, thick paper holds up well to watercolors and even light washes of ink.
The included 6 brushes are a good addition - great for beginners or for quick sketching on the go.
These pads are perfect for practice, experimentation, or even finished pieces.

These wonderful quality watercolour books exceeded my expectations.
The DagouColour 3-Pack set comprises three 30 sheet spiral watercolour books plus a pack of six brushes.
The brushes are acceptable, if at 17cm long a little short for some, but it is the water colour books that are the stars of the show and well worth the money, in my view.
The paper is excellent quality and has a broad like thickness to it. What I think I loved most however was the relatively compact size - the pages are 14cm by 21.6cm.
I like this because when I do watercolour, I tend to want to focus on smaller things - beautiful flowers for example or a clutch of penguins. I want to have fun creating watercolours, but what I don't want to do is to have a large canvas ... that I have to think to much about before I start.
With this lovely acid-free watercolour paper to hand, I can enjoy and, if it doesn't go well, then that is ok too ... as there are a further 89 sheets in this one pack!
Although the watercolour book is spiral bound, which means that that pages of course have holes in them, there is another perforation just after this that you can neatly tear down and so your art work will have perfect pages. You can't really see this in the ordering page, so that felt like another bonus. (see my photo for a view on this.)
In short, I am thrilled with this set.

鶹 Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
