My wife loved the notion of no longer having to plan a trip to the local pharmacy or doctor's office every time she wanted to check her"BP". This Dr. Ho's monitor kit looks like it has met her expectations, and more, as follows: A) the monitor is designed to keep separate records for two different people, so is ideal that way for a couple needing to monitor bp. B) the system works off both 120v household power and its battery capability (4x AAA batteries, not included). This means it can go on camping trips and the like. C) the pressure-taking process and equipment is very similar to what people are used to when done by medical professionals. With an integrated electric air pump, you can take your own readings without generating bp distortions that blowing up the pressure sleeve by hand pump delivers. The directions for use are clear and the equipment is re-assuringly professional. Digital readouts are large, with colour-coding to keep them organized. D) the readings she has taken so far are very close to those she has seen at the pharmacy and her doctor's office. She will take the kit with her on her next trip to the doctor to verify its accuracy, a smart move on her part. E) the Dr. Ho bp monitor kit comes in a handy soft vinyl bag, but for home storage purposes my wife has also retained the original shipping box. No rolling out of cupboards for her! Drawbacks: None whatsoever that can't be overcome with a little familiarization with equipment and process can't overcome. If in doubt, have a medical professional teach you how to use this equipment. Recommendation: an instant 5 out of 5 on design, ease of use and quality of equipment.

    Nice blood pressure cuff that is easy to use and comes with a case for tidy storage. There is an instruction booklet that thoroughly explains all the features and how to put it on. The unit has an auto shut off after one minute if not used. Has a diastolic/systolic reading and a colour indicator that follows WHO guidelines as well as a memory feature and the numbers are big and easy to read. What I really like is that it has a cord/plug as well as battery power. With our previous cuff I used to wonder how accurate it was when the battery was starting to run low. And at times you don't happen to have any spare batteries so this is great, just plug it in. The one thing I wish it had that we had on our old one is the ability to adjust the pressure of the inflation on the cuff. This one inflates very tightly and if you are someone with white coat syndrome the tightness can cause a moment of slight trepidation. Even for me who is not that sensitive, I found that at the peak of inflation it was just a hair's breadth away from me being uncomfortable. The cuff is well sized for any size arm and has a handy guide for placement printed right on the cuff. The reading seemed to be accurate as both numbers were 2 points lower than the reading I got on our wrist cuff meter which is normal. Wrist cuffs will read slightly higher than one on your upper arm. So it seems to be a quality product and everything fits nicely in a sturdy zippered case so it's easy to store between uses. Definitely a handy tool for the medicine cabinet especially as you get older. It's nice to be able to monitor things at home.
