Product description
Mariachi (Antonio Banderas) follows a trail of blood to an infamous Mexican drug lord, Bucho, for an action-packed, bullet-riddled showdown.
After turning the independent film world upside-down with his inventive microbudget debut, writer-director Robert Rodriguez continued the myth of the mysterious Mariachi in the follow-up Desperado, armed with all the explosive pyrotechnics that Hollywood studio money can buy!
A shadowy figure stalks the Mexican underworld, travelling from town to town with only a guitar case in hand; however, what El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas) has on his mind isn't music, but merciless vengeance. With enough bullets up his sleeves for every bandito in his path, the guitar-playing gunslinger has his sights firmly set on taking down a powerful drug lord (Joaquim de Almeida), but only the love of a local bookstore owner (Salma Hayek) will help the Mariachi get out of town alive.
With a rogues' gallery of memorable supporting turns from the likes of Danny Trejo, Steve Buscemi, Cheech Marin and Quentin Tarantino, Rodriguez's instant action classic blends American indie cool and Hong Kong hyper-kineticism with a Latino flavor firmly the director's own.

- Reviewed in Canada on January 7, 2004While the original El Mariachi marks one of the greatest cinematic achievements ever, this "sequel" is certainly one of the greatest turkeys ever created. The "action scenes" are so contrived as to be laughable; I wouldn't have taken them seriously any time after finishing the third grade. Cheech Marin continues his embarrassing career as silly Hispanic sidekick-filler in the notorious tradition of African-American actors placed in demeaning roles in early Hollywood films. Antonio Banderas looks old, fat, and tired. The only reason to watch this film might be the nude shots of Salma Hayek, but even that is not worth sitting thru this utter trash; do yourself a favor and just rent a real blue-movie if you looking for a little skin.
Robert Rodriguez could only redeem himself after this utter disgrace to his heritage by creating a 3.5 hour epic on the Conquest of Mexico in Spanish and Nahuatl. Otherwise he should be completely shunned as an outcast. This film was worse than an utter waste of time. Anyone who has graduated from primary school should consider this film an insult to their intelligence.
My only regret is that "zero stars" is not an option.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ein Klassiker

5.0 out of 5 stars ..COOL RODRIGUEZ MOVIE.."
Verified PurchaseThis movie still looks cool after all these years, a classic 90's Rodriguez shoot-em up movie full of style and violence and a great cast, Antonio Banderas gets involved with a local drug dealer and his army of men in a bloodbath fight for revenge, the story is great fun, lots of violent bloody stylish gun fights, all very over the top and sometimes very silly but its paced out really good with a brilliant cast like Danny Trejo, the beautiful Salma Hayek, Steve Buscemi, and even a funny cameo from Rodriguez's pal Quentin Tarantino, cool soundtrack too, this is just one of those movies that's great to go back to and very quotable on the dialogue too!
