Forholdet mellem Cuba og USA blev iskoldt efter den cubanske borgerkrig i 1950'erne, der endte med at landet overgik til kommunistisk styre under Fidel Castro. Men hvorfor skulle de to lande egentlig være fjender, når de nu havde levet i fred og samhandel i så mange år?
