Product description
Presenting the Cremona SV-800 Premier Student Violin Outfit
This marvelous violin is worthy of the finest professional player! The finish is a convincing reproduction of a fine, old Masterpiece, with all the marks of wear that would occur in two centuries of use. It has a dull patina that is most pleasing and the color of the varnish is a lovely Golden orange. The selected solid spruce top and the well-flamed solid maple back are hand-carved and graduated to perfection, and the resulting tone is rich, free and sonorous, with wonderful carrying power. The trimmings are of finest boxwood in the Hill style, with black pips and collars. The fingerboard is genuine ebony. Thomastik Dominant strings are fitted and the outfit includes a resilient, well-balanced pernambuco wood bow strung with genuine horsehair. The case is a lightweight oblong rigid foam model with plush interior and matching blanket. With all these strictly professional features, this outfit is a phenomenal value for the price.
Traditional Look Distinctive DesignWood Selection
The finest, highly figured maple forms the backs, sides and necks. Choice, narrow-grained spruce is used for the tops. These aged woods are chosen for their inherent tonal properties as well as their visual appeal.
Construction
All instruments exhibit refined and artistic workmanship in every detail of construction. The purfling and edgework is neat and the arching is graduated to perfection. Outfits range in appearance from a beautiful, slightly shaded transparent varnish to the authentic look of a fine, old instrument with natural wear patterns from centuries of use. All Artist violins go through several steps during the setup process to assure the best tone and playability possible before leaving our facilities. Premium D’Addario Prelude or genuine Thomastik Dominant strings are also used.
Fingerboard and Fittings
All fingerboards are beautifully shaped from the most select polished ebony for beauty, playability and durability. The pegs, tailpiece and endpin are of the finest ebony or select boxwood. Some outfits feature a lightweight composite tailpiece with four built-in finetuners.
Outfit
Outfit includes a lightweight, oblong case with padded plush interior and matching blanket. Depending upon the specific outfit, a Brazilwood bow or a genuine Pernambuco bow is supplied.

Cremona Violin Outfits
-
Solid billets of spruce and maple are hand-carved. Spruce's high strength-to-weight ratio allows the optimum sound transmission and resistance to string pressure on the bridge. Maple is a strong, dense, stable tone-wood noted for its visual beauty and ability to take a high polish. Tops and backs are graduated carefully allowing the top and back to resist the tension of the strings while transmitting and amplifying their vibrations.
-
Cremona Cellos & Basses
-
Cremona violins, violas, cellos, and basses can be found in use in educational programs throughout the world. Many programs that purchased their first Cremonas decades ago still have those instruments in use today. - Reviewed in Canada on June 21, 2021Verified PurchaseI have been a violin player for more than 7-8 years now and this was my third violin purchase. I was so impressed with the quality of the sound I was getting right out of the box, that rich warm tone that you hear when you are listening to those very high-end 8000$+ violins. I had to do some small adjustments with the bridge and the tailpiece to get a better sound. The tailpiece was touching the chinrest, limiting the resonance, and the bridge was not absolutely correct.
The bow is indeed the problem with this set, and unless you are a beginner, you won't feel comfortable at all.
The case is very nice and had no problems like others with missing things.
If I were to buy another Violin from all the Cremona series, even the professional most expensive ones, I would still choose this one, since it is very affordable and it certainly worth the price. Certainly recommended.
- Reviewed in Canada on April 10, 2019Verified PurchaseThis is a lovely looking and sounding violin. The bow was decent quality, the strings were superior and the bridge was good quality. Problems: The violin itself had several chips out of the top showing bare wood on the body top of the violin. These were not scratches that could have been accepted as "adding character". They were chips that would have required a luthier to repair properly. The case would have been okay except that the toggle to hold the second bow was broken, leaving the case only good to hold one bow. The case was also missing the violin blanket. The rosin that came with the violin was not good quality. Had it not been for the chips out of the violin body I would have kept this violin outfit. It was a shame that I had to return it. I believe they sent me a used/damaged outfit. Had everything been in order, I would have given this violin outfit 5 stars.
- Reviewed in Canada on October 31, 2016Verified PurchaseReceived the SV-800 - wow! This is quite the "student" violin!
Was not really expecting it to sound this rich and sweet (and it's just going to get
even better with more playing!)....
If I had of heard this violin before buying, I would have thought
at least a few hundred dollars more, plus.
Pretty impressive at this price point!
Setup is ok - D string is a little high, E just a pinch low...
Pegs could use a little more fitting, but they're ok
Overall not a bad setup for a factory instrument.
Again, pretty impressive at this price point - gotta give it 5 stars!
Think they've really hit a sweet spot with this violin!
Nice!
- Reviewed in Canada on January 25, 2019Verified Purchasesound echoes and fantastic for the price...not as nice finish as i wanted but the sound is perfect
- Reviewed in Canada on January 1, 2021Verified PurchaseSo I bought this as a Christmas gift for myself. I'm an adult beginner. My teacher is so impressed with this instrument. He said only negative thing about it that he can find is that it's NEW instead of aged. The bonus is that it will more then likely sound even better with time. He estimates it's worth about $1,100.
I am sort of wondering why the huge price change since I bought mine a few weeks ago the price has gone up to over $1,000!! 鶹 must have been listening to our conversation.
