I was REALLY hoping for a tool that would help me shell hard boiled eggs but this “egg shell opener” was not the tool I hoped it would be. With hard boiled eggs, I used the tool the same way I had for raw eggs but it cut into the hard boiled egg and did not make the task any easier at all. With raw eggs it worked fairly well. You place the egg in the egg cracker then you close it. Once closed, you press the two stainless steel tabs inward. This action cracks the egg but if you press too hard, it also breaks the yolk. Two of us tried it. The person who cooks and bakes a lot was not as impressed as the person who does not cook and bake much. We both had difficulty cracking the eggs without breaking the yolks. It did a great job, however, of keeping eggshell out of the way. We also found that when doing several eggs, the tool did get quite a bit of egg white on it and we got egg on our hands as well. We experimented and tried several different ways of holding the device and releasing the eggs but the results were always the same… messy. At $11.99 for three egg cracking tools, I feel it is just not worth it. It is something I expect to find in a discount store for a buck or two at most.
