What is there to say about a counter duster that hasn't already been said? Well, in my case, I expected it to be a bit stiffer than it was (since the counter dusters/brushes I'd encountered before were). But that's not necessarily a bad thing, depending on what you intend to use it for!

It struggles with larger "dust" (bigger food crumbs, eraser debris, etc.) which is what I'd intended to use it for. It's SO soft that it just kind of bends and glides right over the "big" stuff... On the other hand, it's REALLY good at traditional dusting!! So if you have, like, little porcelain statues or fine plates or other delicate items on display in your home and they're starting to look a little "fuzzy" from lack of maintenance, then this might be a great brush for you.

From what I've learned, horsehair counter dusters are generally made from either the tail (stiffer) or the mane (softer) hair. So, I guess this is mane hair...? I've only owned synthetic/vegan counter dusters before and was actually a bit surprised that this was made from genuine horsehair...

Or is it...?!

It's SUPER shiny!! Suspiciously shiny, some might say.

There were a few loose hairs in the bag, so I got one under a microscope. Results were inconclusive. Mostly because I'm not a scientist or a forensics expert in any way shape or form. I have no idea what my results meant. But I did take a photo so perhaps YOU can determine if what you're seeing is truly horsehair or not.

Then, since I was 1. incredibly bored, 2. still had some loose brush hairs, and 3. knew that it would make for a much more entertaining review of an incredibly basic/everyday product... I set a match to them! If the hairs were organic, they'd burn to ash, right? And if they were plastic, they'd melt. Well, these hairs did both! And they smelled terrible. Again, attaching photos for your amusement.

Anyway, the brush's description has been updated to state that the brush is 75% genuine horsehair and 25% synthetic fibers "for strength." So, basically, my extremely scientific experiments were rendered pointless!! (Kidding).

Anyway, I'd give this brush a 4.5 out of 5 stars, but �鶹�� doesn't allow half stars. It wasn't suited for what I'd purchased it for, but it does a great job with other dusting duties. So, why not a full five stars? Those loose hairs... Gotta knock half a star off for that. Just look at all the mischief I got up to with those! Tsk tsk.

TL;DR = It's VERY soft, so it's perfect for fine dusting but not for bigger debris. It does *seem* to be genuine horsehair (vegans beware), but I'm not a scientist so judge for yourself. It had some loose hairs that made me question its durability/how long it will last (so I'll return with an update in around six months).

There is no justice in this world. When we were looking for a new home, I insisted on a large garage or out-building for my workshop-man cave. I knew that there is simply no need to sit in the house and listen to cat stories and complaints all day. I had a refuge for just these situations. Life was [relatively] good. Until my wife decided that I needed her help 'organizing' my things in my domain. Now I cannot find anything, including my horsehair bench brush that I have had since jesus wore diapers. So I had to order this one. I have to admit that it is almost as good as my old one. It is softer (is that good?) than the old one and is narrower across but is is very well made and if I can find a way to keep her from invading my space, perhaps I will have this one for a very long time.

About ten years ago, I had a hand held dustbrush like this one that I inherited from my father. I remembered him dusting off his drafting board of eraser crumbs and I was happy to inherit it and his drafting tools. Unfortunately, however, during a move, this is the one piece that got lost.

This handbroom is almost exactly like the one that my father used with only minor diffferrences. The brush is very durable and I expect it to last a very long time.
