- Two steps for accurate and reliable results - Step 1 (Prepare the soil's standard solution for pH and Nitrogen(N) testing): 1. Add 25 mL of distilled water to the centrifuge tube. 2. Use a sample spoon to add two level scoops of air-dried soil into the centrifuge tube. 3. Secure the lid tightly and shake the tube vigorously 30 times to ensure thorough mixing of the soil and distilled water. 4. Let the centrifuge tube stand upright undisturbed for 30 minutes to allow the pH ions and Nitrate Nitrogen ions in the soil to fully interact with the distilled water, forming a standardized soil solution
- Two steps for accurate and reliable results - Step 2 (Use the test strip to measure the pH and Nitrogen (N) levels of the soil's standard solution): 1. Take a 2-in-l soil test strip and dip the entire testing area into theclear upper layer of the soil standard solution for 2 seconds. 2. Remove the strip and lay it flat for 60 seconds. 3. Compare the color of the strip with the color chart immediately(discard the strip after 10 seconds) 4. Refer to the plant pH guide to determine which plants are suitablefor the soil based on the pH level.
- What’s in the Box & Support You Can Count On: Along with our a bottle of 2-in-1 soil test strips (100 strips), you'll receive a soil sampling spoon (for collecting accurate soil samples), a centrifuge tube (for preparing the soil standard solution), a detailed user manual and a reference chart for soil pH and nitrogen levels for plants. Some Details You Should Know
Why Should You Test Your Soil’s pH and Nitrogen Levels?
Healthy plants start with healthy soil, and two of the most critical factors affecting plant growth are pH levels and nitrogen (N) content. Understanding and managing these factors helps ensure optimal nutrient absorption, higher yields, and healthier, more vibrant plants—whether you're growing vegetables, flowers, or maintaining a lush lawn.
pH: The Key to Nutrient Availability
Soil pH directly impacts nutrient availability. Even if you fertilize regularly, an imbalanced pH can prevent plants from absorbing key nutrients like nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). For example: In acidic soil, phosphorus becomes locked up, making it unavailable to plants; In alkaline soil, iron and manganese become less accessible, leading to yellowing leaves and poor growth.
Nitrogen (N): The Fuel for Plant Growth
Nitrogen is one of the most essential nutrients for plants because it’s a key component of chlorophyll, proteins, and enzymes. Without enough nitrogen, plants may show signs of: 1. Yellowing leaves, especially on older foliage; 2. Slow growth and weak, thin stems; 3. Reduced flowering and fruit production; However, too much nitrogen can also be a problem: 1. Excessive growth, leading to lush foliage but fewer flowers or fruits; 2. Increased susceptibility to pests and diseases; 3. Potential contamination of groundwater due to nitrogen runoff
By regularly testing nitrogen levels, you can ensure plants get just the right amount—preventing deficiencies while avoiding waste and over-fertilization.
Why Regularly Test pH and Nitrogen?
1. Ensure Proper Nutrient Balance – Adjust soil amendments (like lime or sulfur) and fertilizers based on accurate readings. 2️. Boost Plant Health and Productivity – Create the best possible growing conditions for your lawn, garden, or crops. 3️. Prevent Over-Fertilization and Waste – Save money and protect the environment by applying only what your plants need.
Soil testing takes the guesswork out of gardening, helping you grow stronger, healthier plants with ease! Test your soil’s pH and nitrogen levels today and give your plants the best start possible!
STEP 1 (Prepare the soil's standard solution for pH and Nitrogen(N) testing)

1. Add 25ml distilled water
Add 25 mL of distilled water to the centrifuge tube.

2. Two level scoopsof soil
Use a sample spoon to add two level scoops of air-dried soil into the centrifuge tube.

3. Shake vigorously 30 times
Secure the lid tightly and shake the tube vigorously 30 times toensure thorough mixing of the soil and distilled water.

4.Stand upright for 30 minutes
Let the centrifuge tube stand upright undisturbed for 30 minutes toallow the pH ions and Nitrate Nitrogen ions in the soil to fully interactwith the
STEP 2 (Test the pH & N levels of the soil's standard solution by test strips)

1. Dip 2s
Take a 2-in-1 soil test strip and dip the entire testing area into the clear upper layer of the soil standard solution for 2 seconds.

2. Lay it flat for 60s
Remove the strip from the soil standard solution and lay it flat for 60 seconds.

3. Compare with color chart
Compare the color of the strip with the color chart immediately(discard the strip after 10 seconds)

4. Read plant pH&N Ref. Table
Refer to the plant pH guide to determine which plants are best suited for the soil or how to adjust it based on its current pH level.
-
Why we need to test soil pH?
Soil pH affects nutrient absorption, plant health, and microbial activity. The right pH helps plants thrive, while improper pH limits nutrient uptake, stunts growth, and harms soil fertility.
-
Why we need to test soil N(Nitrogen)?
Nitrogen in soil is crucial for growth, photosynthesis, and chlorophyll. It promotes healthy leaves and higher yields. Too little slows growth and yellows leaves, while too much can stunt roots and disrupt nutrients. Balance is key.
-
Why do our products come with a sampling scoop and centrifuge tube?
The sampling scoop helps you easily collect accurate soil samples, while the centrifuge tube ensures you get the right amount of distilled water, making the process simpler and more precise. We’ve got you covered every step of the way!
-
Why do we need to shake the soil solution vigorously 30 times and let it sit for 30 minutes when preparing it?
Shaking vigorously helps mix the soil and solution, releasing ions, while letting it sit allows the solution to settle and stabilize, ensuring accurate pH and nitrogen readings. For the reliable results, it's strongly recommended to follow this step
-
Why does the color on the test pad sometimes not match the color chart?
Due to soil variability, test results may fall between two color blocks. In such cases, estimate the result and consider averaging two 2-in-1 tests to reduce error

- Reviewed in Canada on February 13, 2025Verified PurchaseThis 2-in-1 soil test kit is a handy tool for any gardener. It accurately measures both pH and nitrogen levels, helping to optimize soil health. The test strips are easy to use and provide quick results. The kit includes a measuring spoon and test tube, making sampling convenient. The packaging is informative and user-friendly. However, it would be great if it tested additional nutrients. Overall, a reliable and affordable choice for basic soil testing. Im looking forward to using it on my soil outdoors in the spring to make sure my cedars and veggies have the right soil.
- Reviewed in Canada on February 24, 2025Verified PurchaseI think every gardener needs this tester kit to make sure the soil is appropriate for a certain plants. Where I live the soil is more alkaline and some of my plants need more acidic environment hence this test is perfect to test the condition of the soil. It’s very easy to use and good price in my opinion. Should last awhile also
- Reviewed in Canada on March 12, 2025Verified PurchaseI tried it with my house plants and tomato seedling and it works and very informative (had to increase nitrogen). Can’t wait to test my garden soil after the snow will melt.
- Reviewed in Canada on February 9, 2025Verified PurchaseWorked great. I think now I see why most of my indoor plants seem to be dying. The soil pH,(other than for 2 or the plants), was definitely off. Wish I had checked this earlier, would have saved a lot of headaches. The instructions are clear, it's very easy to use.
