5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful watercolor illustrations to learn days of the week, colors, fruits, and vegetables
Verified PurchaseThis book is such a fun way to learn basic vocabulary in Spanish like days of the week, colors, fruits, and vegetables.
It's the perfect basic concepts book for preschool age language learners because the story makes it engaging for kids ages 3-5.
The illustrations are beautiful. They appear hand-drawn and handpainted in the style of watercolor.
There are tons of ways you can extend the reading, from making colorful, healthy snacks, to matching colors and making rainbow crafts. After we read this book together, my daughter and I made a rainbow out of fruits and vegetables, and she started snacking on a fruit that she doesn't normally like, without my prompting. Would be great for picky eaters!
We need more attractive, engaging, bilingual books like this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have in any early learners’ library!
Verified PurchaseA beautifully illustrated bilingual story that is a must-have in any early learners’ growing library. Also a wonderful context for speakers of both English and Spanish to learn and appreciate each other’s languages. Ms. Boyer’s story emphasizes aspects of family, sharing, and healthy eating, all while building vocabulary, categorization, and sequencing skills. The story is framed using routines & patterns that are familiar to young children (days of the week, color order in the rainbow). Ms. Boyer’s use of soft yet vibrant colors, along with the grandmother-granddaughter relationship, are two aspects that create a warm and welcoming environment for young children to take risks and learn new vocabulary in 2 languages. As an educator, I appreciated the range of words used, mixing more commonly encountered “Tier 1” foods (corn, lemon) and less frequently encountered “Tier 2” foods (beet, figs, apricots). Including such examples as blue corn chips and sweet potatoes also provides a richer cultural experience for readers and a starting point for exploring other new foods from various regions of the U.S. and around the world. Our home and school libraries need more books like these...keep them coming!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and a great springboard for learning!
Verified PurchaseMs. Boyer’s book is lovely and engaging. The story is written in clear language and is a wonderful combination of the sweet relationship between child and grandmother and the teaching of so many concepts: colors, fruit/veggie vocabulary, days of the week, healthy eating...you can tell it was written by a language specialist! I can imagine all the cool classroom or home activities a teacher or parent could create to continue the teaching after reading it. So much learning packed into this adorable picture book!
