I see too many reviews on Hue products where the customers simply weren't the "right fit" for this product line. Let me be clear - PHILIPS HUE IS A LIFESTYLE. Haha. If you're just looking for a single color-controllable bulb in your home (or even a few)... I don't think Philips Hue is for you. This platform is meant to be used as a whole-home system that you grow across time. If you're not looking to run 20-50 bulbs in the end, then you might as well just buy the cheap Wi-Fi bulbs. Philips Hue isn't cheap. Nor is the platform intended for fly-by-night fad usage. I feel bad for those who buy ONE porch light, go through all the trouble of getting the Bridge going, the app installed, and the fixture installed... and they wonder why it's so "complicated" and "too much work". That is because Hue is best for a whole home of bulbs. That is why Philips came up with an architecture that uses their central "Bridge" unit... keeping the whole system off your WiFi. Putting 20+ bulbs on WiFi ends up being a nightmare - trust me. But the Philips Hue system can handle 50 bulbs per Bridge... like a breeze. INSTANT response, across all 50 bulbs. This is high end, wireless colored lighting... thus the architecture and the price. It all becomes clear once you're running a whole bunch of bulbs, and you have your app set up for rooms and stuff. You can create instant "scenes" where in a touch of a button, your ENTIRE house changes into that mood. Turn your whole house into a rainbow... all red... all intense white... or red upstairs, blue downstairs, white outdoors... etc etc etc. Plus you can program Automation. Which turns on scenes or individual bulbs at certain times, and turns them off at other times. The programs store in the Bridge, so it doesn't matter where your phone/app is. They run even if you are away from home. I don't know why people think the Hue bulbs & fixtures are "dim" (???) When I put mine in brightest white, I cannot even look at them. They are intense. If you have ever seen a "100 watt equivalent" white LED bulb... (not 60 watt!) ... that is how bright a Hue bulb gets. The colors aren't that far behind, but of course white is always the most intense. I really like how they offer warm-cold spectrum (there are both LED primaries inside). You cannot believe how many "moods" there are in just the white spectrum alone. Once you play with a decent setup, with at least a dozen bulbs, you'll be very impressed and happy that you went with Hue. I'm finally building a new home, and my plan is to go with (2) Bridges and up to 100 bulbs ! Meticulously setting up the app into scenes is going to be a chore, but once it's done, it's done. It's going to be amazing.
