A spice company and a food content creator - what a collab! This is the second of 3 different seasoning Max the Meat Guy is offering as part of the collaboration with Club House. As the "build" layer, this one acts as the seasoning that's made to enhance the flavour of your protein, should you want to explore beyond the "base" layer which has basically consisted of salt, pepper, and garlic thus far. For this, I found beef to work the best, but it's also fantastic on fish (in my opinion). However, it's important to note - I find this seasoning can be a bit controversial simply due to its coarse nature. With spices like mustard seeds and coriander being so coarse, you can sometimes taste the pungency of those spices, and it may not be for everyone. In fact, I found this seasoning to be a lot more enjoyable in combination with the 'base' layer mentioned above, although I can't say it can't work on its own. Regardless, I still find this seasoning flavourful enough to feel like its contributing to an enhanced flavour without being overwhelmingly different.

For those who prefer a foundationally different flavours, you might prefer other fine seasoning on the market. But if you like coarse seasoning to get a good crust on a steak or just to enhance the 'base' layer of salt, pepper, and garlic that's already core to your flavour profile, then this "Xtra Coarse Seasoning" is the one I'd recommend getting. Interestingly enough, because the 'base' layer is something you can realistically replicate, this is the one (out of 3 total) seasoning I'd recommend you get if you just want to see what Max the Meat Guy has to offer.

I’ve tried several seasoning products from Club House, and this Xtra Coarse seasoning is decent but not particularly outstanding. The taste is okay—it’s salty enough and provides a good amount of flavor. However, I find that the seasoning tends to focus too much on the salt, and the spice flavors aren't as pronounced. If I try adding more to enhance the spice, the meat ends up being too salty, which can throw off the balance of the dish.

I’ve also noticed that this seasoning works better with certain types of meat. It complements beef steak and pork chop quite well, but when it comes to chicken or lamb, the results are a bit underwhelming. This could be due to my marinating technique, though I haven’t had the same issue with other Club House seasonings, so I’m not entirely sure.

I had no idea what to expect from this seasoning because the flavour is called "xtra coarse" and the category is "build". I have no idea what that means, I would have preferred a name that gave some indication to the actual flavour. The ingredients are also listed in a confusing way so it's not clear if it includes additional spices that are not specifically named.
It does add an interested flavour to the food with a bit of a paprika kick. But there is way too much salt. The first ingredient is salt. 1 g of the seasoning contains 150 mg sodium, so this product is 15% salt. This is obviously because salt is cheap. The level of salt is a personal preference, hence why recipes say salt "to taste" rather than listing a specific quantity. Everyone (or almost everyone) has salt at home. So I would much prefer is the seasoning was salt free, or at the very least much lower in salt, and then the end user would free to add as much or as little salt as they wish.

I'm really impressed with the “Club House La Grille, Grilling Made Easy, Max Xtra Coarse Seasoning”! This blend has made a noticeable difference in my grilling. The extra coarse texture adds a satisfying crunch, and the flavour is well balanced, enhancing the meat without overpowering it.
