    I bought this specifically to digitize a bunch of old VHS tapes. I had also just built a fast Intel Win11 PC and thought I'd try out this device on what was my newest, fastest computer. But no matter what I did, (reinstalls, etc.) the OBS software didn't want to play nice. So I went over to my 2012 Mac running Monterey on Open Core and it worked like a charm. I transferred at least 80 tapes and the quality was quite good given that the original tapes weren't all that great much of the time. Lots of settings to choose from, so it's quite flexible. Mission accomplished.

    Does what its supposed to do. Free software works. I cant comment on the quality of the digitizing as i don't have anything to compare it with. i think if i had a VCR with time based correction, i would have produced better results with my home movies but this has nothing to do with this device.

    This is a great device at a decent price. The capture is great and it took a bit to get used to the software but to be honest I'm using just for capture and the software OBS is meant more for broadcast or podcast and I use it for capture to back up other video recordings. It isn't very big and it just gets a little warm. A well made product, the fit for the RCA couplings are high quality.

    I tried other boxes and cables. Issue I had with them was any slight imperfections in the VHS tape I was transferring left some awful glitches (big black blocks) on the image. And it was fairly inconsistent. With the ClearClick Video2USB the image was CRYSTAL CLEAR! I had some aspect ration issues with the OBS software (was turning my 4x4 VHS image into 16x9 aspect ratio, stretching it horizontally). I emailed ClearClick support and gave me a solution FIVE MINUTES LATER in an emailed response. Love the USB-C. Love the other features like Live Stream and HDMI/S-VIDEO capture. Only downside is I cant hear video as I capture a VHS tape but I can see the levels moving in the meters so all good. Audio quality is great as well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Worth the extra price.

    It creates weird motion blur effect. There's no customization. I think it's using low quality deinterlacing. I'd rather have it just do pure capture, and let me enable or disable any other filters.
    The only good thing is there's no drivers to install it just works.

    This device does work. The picture quality is excellent, the best you can get short of software defined players such as VHS-Decode/LD-Decode. I am holding back the last star because, although the device takes two-channel audio input, it will only output mono audio, which OBS is smart enough to encode as stereo but with identical audio in each channel. You will need a separate device if you want to capture true stereo audio.

    I initially had 2 issues with audio that were quickly resolved by the incredible response received from Tyler in customer service. He replied at 7:30 pm a couple hours after I sent a request for help on their site.

    First issue was I wasn’t able to hear any audio when I connected my old Sony HandyCam video recorder to the ClearClick device via S-Video and Red and White audio cables and S-Video using the free OSB software.

    Solution: MACs security setting was not configured properly on my machine.
    “ Please quit OBS. Then go to the Apple Menu -> System Preferences -> Security and Privacy -> Privacy tab.

    Look in the list on the left for the microphone and camera settings. Click the microphone option, then click the unlock button at the bottom of the list so you can make changes to those items. Then add the checkmark in the list on the right to OBS so it can have access. Next repeat the steps for the Camera option in the list as well.

    Then depending on your MacOS version, go to System Preferences -> Security and Privacy -> Security -> Allow Accessories to connect and change this to “always”

    Then return to OBS and check the signals again.

    It is important that OBS is quit/closed before you make these settings.”

    These instructions solved my first issue.

    Second issue was I had interference or loud static when recording. Fortunately, Tyler sent me a quick reply which quickly solved this issue as well.

    “ It is possible that your camcorder only has monaural audio out and you are using a stereo audio cable. If you unplug the Red and White cables one at a time, the buzz should follow one cable if this is the case.”

    Bingo, it worked.

    I have finally converted MiniDVs that we have wanted in a digital format for years without spending $$$$$ to have it done for us. Now we can edit and share them more easily. This “To do” is finally crossed off my list. The ClearClick Video2USB device came with incredible service and made the task easy to do on my own.

    Other reviews referenced excellent support and my experience should give you confidence it wasn’t a fluke.
