I have always been a huge fan of trains and Christmas is my favorite time of year. I wanted to get a train to put around one of my Christmas trees. This train seemed to have all the features I was looking for but unfortunately, it has one major flaw. The train arrived well-packaged. It includes the engine with a coal car, 2 additional cars ( a reindeer and dining car), curved and straight track pieces, a small water bottle, and a user manual. The track pieces snap together easily and hold together nicely. I made a circle to try things out before I put it under my tree. You can also make square and oval tracks. You need to put 6 AA batteries, which are not included, into the coal car. The battery compartment is on top and you must use a small screwdriver to remove the top. The screwdriver is also not included. The engine and cars are made out of plastic. They are colored nicely. The coal car plugs into the engine and connects with a plastic connector. Once connected you can easily put the engine and coal car on the track. The other 2 cars also have plastic connectors to connect them to the coal car and to each other. Here is where a major problem is. The plastic connector that should attach the reindeer and dining cars to the coal car does not fit properly. It only fits a tiny bit into the coal car's connector, so as soon as the train starts moving, the connector pulls out. I have tried everything to get this connector to hold to the coal car and nothing works. There is nothing broken and this appears to be either a major design flaw or the wrong cars were sent. It is impossible to get the train to pull the additional 2 cars. I demonstrated this in the attached video. I ran the train with only the coal car and it worked well. It plays train sounds and Christmas songs and the front lights up. The train goes nicely around the track and does not derail at all. There is a small switch on the engine that you push forward to make the train go with sound and push it back for the train to go with no sound. You can use the small water bottle to put water into the engine and it will put out steam which is very cool. I really hate giving negative reviews and I always do everything I can to resolve any issues but as this train stands it does not work as expected and the reindeer and dining cars can not be connected to the engine and coal car. I have shown clearly in the video where the problem is. Unfortunately because of this defect, I can not recommend this set. It is a lot of money to spend on something that does not work as intended.
