WINNER OF THE FORTNUM & MASON AWARDS BEST FOOD BOOK 2018
From the BBC1 presenter and bestselling author of Eat, The Kitchen Diaries and Toast comes a new book featuring everything you need for the winter solstice.
The Christmas Chronicles is the story of Nigel Slater’s love for winter, the scent of fir and spruce, ghost stories read with a glass of sloe gin, and beeswax candles with shadows dancing on the ceiling. - Reviewed in Canada on February 7, 2021Verified PurchaseThis is the best book on Winter, Christmas, cooking, and just plain, common sense stuff. The recipes are exciting and unusual, but delicious. I've now tried two, (I do find I have to add more liquid to his soup and one meatball recipe), but he truly thinks outside the box. And oh yeah, there's the humor. I love his sense of humor.

- Reviewed in Canada on March 14, 2020Verified PurchaseFrom now on, every late-November I'll take down this beautiful book. Slater writes about his days up to and after Christmas, the dishes he loves, winter in his lovely home in London, his ways of turning off the noise of the season--lighting candles, enjoying quiet beauty.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 29, 2018Verified PurchasePoetic writing style - I was a good way into the book before I realised that it was a cookbook. It is a nostalgic look at a the past, beautifully described memories of winter.
- Reviewed in Canada on December 14, 2017Verified PurchaseNigel has for many years written books, which are a joy to read. The recipes are usually faultless. I am a fan. Definitely 5 stars. Happy Christmas to all
- Reviewed in Canada on December 6, 2017Verified PurchaseNot as good as his other books. I expected more of the well-nigh arousing language describing vegetables and fruit in Tender and Tender II. (A favourite party game around here is "Is it erotica or Nigel Slater?" The long winter evenings just fly by, I tell you.)
Christmas Chronicles is far more restrained and contains didactic lectures on candle-storage.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a full sized book - Thick, note book size.
Verified PurchaseNothing against the recipes or the author, but do note, that this is not a full sized recipe book, so it is hard to use. 1 recipe reads across 3-4 pages. Not suitable at all for use in the kitchen.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mucho blof esnob
Japi jolideis.
