Sports participation - from the recreational to the collegiate Division I level - is at an all-time high. While the caliber of their game may differ, athletes at every level have one thing in common: they want to excel. In The Champion's Mind, sports psychologist Jim Afremow, PhD, LPC, now offers the same advice he uses with Olympians, Heisman Trophy winners, and professional athletes, including tips and techniques based on high-performance psychology research, such as how to get in a "zone", thrive on a team, and stay humble; how to progress within a sport and sustain excellence long-term, and customizable pre-performance routines to hit full power when the gun goes off or the puck is dropped. The Champion's Mind distills actionable advice into clear and concise steps for athletes looking to find confidence, concentration, and mental preparedness - the mental edge that sets champions apart.

It is enjoyable but I'm finding it to be abit of a tough read...not as interesting or engaging as I'd hoped. I'm finding I have to make myself read it rather than thinking "I can't wait to read it"...I have been able to highlight some good thoughts, phrases, quotes and ideas, there are some good things to keep in mind to get your best out of 'your game'. Alittle dry but I don't regret my purchas!!

It's great and I would want any young athlete to read this (12-16y old).

It felt drawn out. The author didn't have enough content to reach the minimum length requirements. Repeated the same concepts in different ways.

This book is for teens but wasn't written just for teens. These ideas are SIMPLE and OBVIOUS. When an author tries to entice everyone, they miss their niche.

Too many stories and content from athletes people don't know. Great they're Olympians, but if there is no connection to the individual the relevance does not hold the same weight. People want to hear about LeBron, Brady, McDavid, Tiger, Nadal, Serena, Simone. Yaaa know the household names...
You might as well title these people Olympic Rower A or Olympic Skeleton person B.

Readability was okay, but this book could have had the same impact with 40 pages.

It's not a 5-star book, but if a teen hasn't had elite coaching, this would be valuable. To be honest, a 5-min summary might be the best route.

This sports psychology book is written mainly for sports persons. But this is useful for any one engaged in any competitive field where you need to train/prepare hard and long to excel. The concepts are very useful for sports people, stock/commodity traders, stock investors, corporate rats, entrepreneurs, competitive exam takers of any kind etc. Many of the concepts proven in sports arena are very useful in other competitive domains.
The book basically helps you train to think in a particular ways which will help you manage the stress and perform to your best potential. It also talks about procrastination and how to mange it to train hard. It proposes certain thinking rituals that you can do. The book espouses certain mental training techniques like...meditation, calming breath exercises, imagery, instant stress release techniques etc. The author is reputed sports psychologist for Olympic athletes, top NBA, NFL, baseball players and these high achievers use these techniques to train their mind. The case studies and accounts of Olympic medal winners are illuminating.
I would recommend this excellent book to all especially students in colleges.

If you've ever wondered what makes a Champion in sport or in life, then this is the book that sets it out.

This is not a theoretical pamphlet but an actionable guide which sets out each criteria you need to become the best you want to be - whatever that may be at.

One of the positives of this book is you can dip into it again and again going over whether you have implemented the tried and tested techniques in the book.

Another key part of the book is hands on commentary from top athletes who explain their mindset for winning and how it happened.

Reading these books are useful if you are struggling to focus on achieving success in something. In my case, I want to be the best I can be at snooker, and this book has helped focus my mind on getting closer to that goal.

With the help of this focus in this book, lots of practice, and coaching, I made my first break over 50!

It helped me focus and give clarity, so give it a read, and see if it helps you.

You can use this book whenever you are feeling negative about your confidence or need inspiration to keep motivated.
