I picked this up for use as a decorative item. The ceramic is sturdy and surprisingly heavy, and the marbling effect is rather lovely. This doesn't look or feel like a novelty item. However, it might not be practical for real, everyday day use as a mortar and pestle. There are ridges on the interior that might make it difficult to clean. Mine also has what appears to be glue residue in the bottom. It looks gorgeous sitting on my bookshelf, but it you're looking to actually crush stuff rather than create a pastel witchy vibe, this might not suit your needs.
