Celestron AstroMaster Telescope Accessory Kit

  • This economical eight-piece eyepiece and filter accessory kit enhances the performance of your Celestron AstroMaster, or most any other telescope
  • Includes two 1.25” eyepieces, a 2X Barlow lens, three filters, a cleaning cloth, and a case!
  • With two extra eyepieces and a Barlow lens, you get four different magnifications to choose from
  • A Moon filter helps block out some moonlight so you can see more lunar detail, and the two color filters (Red and Blue) highlight features on Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn
  • A plastic, hard carry case keeps everything safe in the foam-lined interior

Eyepieces - The 15 mm and 6 mm eyepieces can be used in any telescope with a 1.25” focuser. Each eyepiece is fully coated to improve light transmission and protect the optics. The 15 mm Kellner eyepiece offers a nice medium magnification view in most telescopes, and the 6 mm Plossl provides high magnifications, great for the Moon and planets, especially when seeing conditions are good.

2x Barlow Lens - Insert the 2x Barlow Lens between the eyepiece and the telescope and it doubles the magnification of any 1.25” eyepiece. That means the 15 mm Kellner included in this kit will double in power, effectively becoming a 7.5 mm eyepiece, and the 6 mm will provide the magnification of a 3 mm. Any other 1.25” eyepieces you already have will also work in this versatile accessory, giving you even more magnification choices. Remember, high magnifications do not always produce clear, sharp results, especially on evenings of poor or moderate seeing conditions. Experiment to find the magnifications that are best for you and your telescope. T-Threads are machined into this Barlow lens, allowing a user to attach a DSLR camera with the addition of an optional T-Ring.

Filters - Colored filters can be used to bring out certain details on a planet’s surface or its cloud structure. Both planetary filters, as well as the Moon filter, can be used on any 1.25” eyepiece with the proper filter threads, so they are very versatile. Just screw one onto your eyepiece of choice and slide it into the focuser.

The #80A is a medium-blue filter that enhances the contrast of the cloud belts on Jupiter and the polar ice caps on Saturn. It also can be used to increase contrast on the Moon if you don’t mind the color shift.

The #25 filter is a deep red color and is a good choice when you want to define the polar ice caps on Mars. It’s also fun to use this filter when observing Jupiter. The #25 Red filter blocks quite a bit of light coming through your telescope, however, so it is best used on bright objects with larger aperture telescopes.

The Moon filter is one of the first accessories most new amateur astronomers buy, and for good reason! It helps block out a portion of the light the Moon sends into your eyepiece so that you can see details better. You can also try this filter on Venus; it helps you see the planet’s phases.

Cleaning Cloth and Case: Keep the micro-fiber cleaning cloth stashed in your AstroMaster Accessory Kit case so that it will always be handy. It’s much better to use a micro-fiber cloth on your optics than other wipes or tissue, as it does not leave a residue, and can be reused. Remember to blow or brush any dust particles off of your optics before rubbing them with the cloth.

The black plastic carry case has die-cut foam inside to protect and cushion your accessories. Keep each one in its appointed place when not in use and you’ll keep them looking and performing like new.

Wow! Recieved the next day even though I did not ask for or pay for that service. First off I should state that I am a newbie to astronomy so take what you want from my review. Test was done on a cloudy day and only with the moon. I bought this kit to use with my Skywatcher 102/500 refractor. The lenses were clean clear and gave splendid veiws. (Too bad the conditions were not better) The instructions showed the Barlow lens to go Infront of what is the 45* erecting prisim of my scope. Doing this turned the moon into a white fuzz. No amount of focusing cleaned it up. Putting the Barlow's between the prisim and my lens proved to be the right way for me. I have not tried the filters but I imagine they will do what they should. My moon filter had fingerprints on it though but I am happy to report that the included cloth works well. I had to help it with a squirt of alcohol to get the fingerprint off but it did not scratch it. What is also nice is the included literature explains what each filter is for as well as how the lenses work and also how to do a proper cleaning. The case does its job nothing special there but a nice touch to keep it all in its place. All in all I am very happy with the buy and highly recommend this kit to anyone looking to increase their selection of lenses and filters without breaking the bank. I feel I shound add that these lenses seem superior to the brand that came with my scope. If something changes I will report back if I can.

This is a great kit for the price, however, for over $100, I would at least like a case that will remain closed. I've only opened it once and it will not stay closed. It seems wasteful to return it, but I'm going to have to invest in a better case to store my lenses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value for money, a great set for a beginner like me and wonderful views
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 15, 2020

I’ve only had my Newtonian telescope 3 months (Celestron Astromaster 130EQ) which came with 10mm and 20mm eyepieces. So I’m very much a beginner.

This set fit perfectly with my telescope and the filters fit perfectly on my existing eyepieces and the eyepieces this set came with.
Personally I’ve found the 10mm the sharpest but I also find it excellent with the 2x Barlow lens as it gives a much closer view. The 15mm and 20mm are very sharp but a wider field of view and I prefer a the closer images.
The 6mm does provide a good zoomed in view but is slightly less sharp in the image. This is great for the moon and focusing on specific features for my telescope but is just slightly less sharp than I’ve found the 10mm plus eyepieces to be. Again using the Barlow lens I’ve personally found using the 10mm with it to be a sharper image than the 6mm.
I’ve also got an adapter to take pictures through the telescope with my phone. This has worked well with the 15mm and my existing 10mm but is definitely harder with the 6mm due to how small the eyepiece is. So I’ve used the 15 and 10mm with the Barlow lens which have been great.
The moon filter is amazing for viewing the moon and Venus it stops the brightness and allows you to see details on the moon hidden when it’s too bright. I have also used the blue and red filters on Venus as it’s so bright at the moment. These do remove a lot of the light and change the colour you see but that was what I was counting on to try and get sharper views of the planet without the glare.
I can’t wait to use them on Jupiter to see if they help show the bands etc. but They’ve not been visible in the sky yet.
Overall the kit is excellent. I couldn’t afford all these items separately and they so far have been great quality and really helped with different views and pics of the moon and Venus.
I hope the review helps anyone who’s similar to me, fairly new to astronomy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great affordable starters kit
Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2012

There are few reviews of this product in the net so I'll try to be detailed as possible.

The kit came in with a box and inside the hard shell that stores the items. The plastic hard case seems durable enough and the items insides are protected by a die-cut foam.

    The items:

    - 2x Power Lens with T-threads
    - 80A Blue Planetary Filter
    - 25 Red Planetary Filter
    - Moon Filter
    - 15 mm Kellner Eyepiece
    - 6 mm Plössl Eyepiece
    - micro fiber cloth

    1. 2x Power Lens with T-threads (Cost about 40 USD)

This is probably the same with this product Celestron Universal T-Adapter 1.25in 93640

Good enough for viewing bright objects like the moon and jupiter. I tried all my lens (25 mm and 10 sirius plossl, 15 mm Kellner and 6 mm celestron plossl to viewing the moon and jupiter, the image stays sharp and minimal light loss since the moon was bright.

The Barlow lens itself can be removed and attached to you're individual eyepieces giving you a 1.5x magnification - which is a good feature.

The barlow has a t-threat so you can attached a t-ring for you dslr - another good feature.

For viewing stars and dim object you'll immediately notice that light loss with this 2x barlow. The image starts to get dim and seems like out of focused. 10/22/2012 Although I tried it recently with a 10 mm plossl and I still saw the orion nebula. A gray patch/smoke in the sky. No color but still magnificent =)

    2. 80A Blue Planetary Filter and 25 Red Planetary Filter (This propably cost 20 USD)

Good quality filters, this filter is probably the color mostly used. The housing is metal and threaded on both side so it can be attached to another filter to change the color. (adding the red and blue will just yield a darker red =)) I tried the blue with jupiter and it made the white bands blue (it's better for me to just view it without a filter)

    3. Moon Filter (Cost 10 USD)
    Celestron Telescope Moon Filter - 1-1/4" 94119-A

Housing is plastic and it fits my other eyepieces but has a problem fitting the 15 mm kellner that came with the kit (don't force it to fit the thread will be ruined) You will view a greenish moon with this filter. I'll post a moon video sample soon. I does indeed help in toning down the brightness and increasing the contrast of the moon.

    4. 15 mm Kellner Eyepiece
    Celestron 15mm 1.25" Telescope Eyepiece w/ Eyeguard

Good midrange eyepiece. I view jupiter with this with a 3x barlow and I saw the bands and 4 moons. If you want a affordable eyepiece go for a kellner. Don't be afraid of kellners they are not bad =)

    5. 6 mm Plössl Eyepiece
Celestron 6mm 1.25" Plossl Telescope Eyepiece

One of the reason I bought this kit is this lens. Good quality eyepiece for high power viewing. It's a plossl. When you buy this alone it will cost about 25 USD half of price of the kit alone. I used this with a 3x barlow to view the moon. The FOV is small but the magnification was great. It pushed my 130mm scope to 325X.

    6. micro fiber cloth

A plus for cleaning your eyepiece

Overall the kit for me is a great value. If you are starting in astronomy and on a budget this kit is for you. If you buy the items by piece it will cost more than 100 USD.

I've read some comments from astronomy forum that they should not bother to buy this because it's cheap. Well if you're on a budget what's included in this kit is very useful. And as always 鶹 is great!

I'll update this review again if I have other eyepieces, barlow and filters to compare it with.
