Very shallow depth of field & impossible to focus clearly beyond 7x magnification

- Reviewed in Canada on August 30, 2021Verified PurchaseVery solid build...
Focus and zoom feature are accurate and easy to use. Clarity is very good, used in a normal lighting situation and brightness was not a problem.
Came with only one lens cap and a case.
Nice monocular!
- Reviewed in Canada on May 13, 2023Verified PurchaseThis monocular is pretty good once you figure it out. But it has a dollar-store feel to it because it is too light weight.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very shallow depth of field & impossible to focus clearly beyond 7x magnification
Verified PurchaseEven at 7X magnification, the DOF on this monocular is razor-thin, making focusing challenging. At higher magnifications, particularly at the maximum, it was in my experience impossible to correctly focus.
The image attached was taken with a smartphone held up to the eyepiece; 7X magnification and you can already see elements of what I'm talking about.
A small item that I think warrants mention is the fact that the neck lanyard attaches to the scope by being threaded and looped through a slot in the plastic screw that serves as a cover for the tripod hole. It seems like an unnecessary potential point of failure.
There were a few pros, but not enough to compensate for the flaws above. The grey color (of both the case and the monocular) is less common than black, and easier not to misplace. That there is a tripod screw is an interesting addition, but at the performance limits of this model, I can't see why a tripod would be necessary, unless for personal reasons (e.g. disability, etc.,). The unit is fairly light. The ability to turn the focus and zoom wheels from both the top and bottom (i.e. open casing) was helpful, as they were stiff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ottimo

5.0 out of 5 stars Für den Preis top

5.0 out of 5 stars Just got it, 10/10
Verified PurchaseAfter searching for days through fake adds falsely advertising 80x hand held monos (only to learn later that isn't even feasible) and having them delivered only to find out they're barely 6x, I was relieved to find some actual brands that delivered on what they say. It is a small device that actually zooms 21X. I read the other reviews and saw a few 1 stars claiming it didn't work properly or failed completely. Some claim it was too dark and to be honest, that is to be expected in a 21x21 monocular that should have an exit pupil diameter of about 1 mm.
I was ready for it to be dark, however it simply exceeded all my expectations, especially for the price. It isn't even dark, I can still zoom to 21x even when tested in a poorly lit room. A brighter image that my old 10x25. This thing is also just as small (a bit shorter even) despite having the (supposedly) bulkier prism design that gives a better image quality (explains why it isn't a dark picture). It is built well and just works. I find it easy to adjust both the zoom and focus (read a review of someone complaining, like, it was either broken or that person hires someone to wipe their butt coz it is too much effort). Naturally you need to be careful when focusing on objects far away, but it is certainly achievable.
The only let down in this package was perhaps the belt sheath. It isn't bad, but I prefer black, with molle and made of thicker nylon/cordura. I would rather them have spent that bit of money throwing in another lens cap or securing the one they had on there properly, but I knew this before I got it. Luckily for me i had ordered a sheath for my leatherman wave and it arrived on the same day. It fits perfectly in there too.
They even managed to fit a tripod attachment onto this thing. I have seen scopes 10 times the price of this size leave that part out. It certainly isn't unwelcome given how shaky things can become at this level of zoom and allows you to use it on mini tripos for phone attachments as well. Sure, if you have a tripod you probably have a larger scope to use, but it is an option, it is nice to have options.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Powerful for Its Size
Verified PurchaseThis tiny monocular exceeded my expectations. Despite its small size, the clarity and range are impressive — I was able to see much farther than I anticipated. The build quality feels solid, and the price was very reasonable for the performance it delivers.
Overall, I’m very pleased with the purchase. It’s a great compact option for casual spotting or travel without sacrificing too much on image quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice pocket monocular at a great price.
Verified PurchaseArrived quickly and first impressions are that it’s well made. Focus ring is quite tight and a slight movement makes a big difference in getting it in focus and staying there~ it’s very sensitive. Zoom control is great although I don’t know how anyone can hand hold anything more powerful than this due to shake~ I guess a tripod is the answer but for me that kind of defeats the object of having a very small monocular to carry around. Vision is clear and has good clarity for the price~ don’t expect Leica quality or the same quality as your big bulky binoculars and you will be pleased with this.
