These rails work fine. They are sturdy when fully opened and take weight well, doesn't wobble. We have it set up on the toilet and the only issue is that the toilet seat drops because it's a soft foam lid which takes up more space than a plain plastic one. The handles are covered with a soft material that is comfortable to grip. Overall, this does what it says it does, no complaints.

Carex Toilet Safety Rails

In order to secure the sides of the frame you need to inset four the (4) safety E-clips pins on each side. These safety pins are locked into place via the plastic clips that are attached to the end of the safety pins.

These safety pins keep the back support attached to the armrests as well as keep the armrests in place.
I move the Carex Toilet Assist weekly for cleaning.
This time, when moving the Carex Toilet Assist for weekly cleaning, all 4 safety pins fell apart from the rails and the armrests folded inward.

All 4 plastic parts that are attached to the end of the safety pins had broken into pieces and the metal shaft of the pin fell from the pre-drilled holes.

This makes the Carex product very unsafe. There is a high risk of serious injury on this product.
I purchased this product to help my wife safely use the toilet, as this was needed while recovering from total knee replacement. Had this item fell apart while being used the results could have been disastrous.

This product is only 2 months old. This item now rests folded up and stored in my basement. It will remain unused until I find a safer safety pin resolution. Perhaps the use of a regular bolt or shoulder bolt with a locking nylon nut may be the solution.

It appears this product is not CSA or UL approved.

Initially, for the first couple of weeks, I was so impressed with my first order that I placed a 2nd order, as my disabled spouse uses 2 bathrooms in our home and I needed to ensure he was safe while toileting. As I now see other consumers expressing the same concern and frustration, I felt it important to submit a review.

Within a very short timeframe (less than 2 months from purchase of each toilet safety rail), I noticed a few black squares laying on the bathroom floor, and after investigating further, realized that the plastic parts that are attached to the end of the safety pins had broken into pieces; in one instance, the metal shaft of the pin fell from the pre-drilled hole.

I am now very concerned that this item is unsafe for my spouse to use as these safety pins keep the back support attached to the armrests and the armrests in place.

This product will no longer be used in my home until, like others who've reported similar experiences, a safer proven solution is found.

It appears this product is not CSA or UL approved.

I was taking my 91-year old mom with me on a trip up to Cambria, CA. I realized, a few days before we were to leave, that she would have difficulty sitting on a hotel toilet (staying at a small hotel with their one ADA room already booked)! I read the reviews of this brand, and another cheaper one, but I’m glad I went with this one! It was easy to assemble and folded small to pack into the trunk of my car. I found it to be sturdy and I liked it because it didn’t stick out too much which allowed room for my mom’s walker to be in the bathroom with her. I liked the padded bars and the rubber feet on the legs. Although I too had problems with the lock stoppers (?) popping off a few times. After looking at the picture on �鶹��, I realized I was putting them in on the inside instead of the outside of the folding part (dark metal). I’ll try again when we need to take it with us on another trip, but I’ll also bring duct tape to tape them in place when it needs to be in a “locked” position. Not a big issue since only one or two would pop off. My biggest worry was that I would pack it up and not check that I had all four locks! I placed a small bag on a large caliber and attached it so I had somewhere to place the locks when it wasn’t in use. It would be nice if there was somewhere on this item that you could stick the locks for storing when not needed. The bag was the best solution I could come up with. Overall, I’d recommend this brand.

�鶹�� offers two different free standing safety rails. I originally ordered the less expensive ($32) one. I received and tried to assemble the cheaper of the two, but it had a manufacturers defect. The holes in the metal legs had been bored a tad too large and you could not secure the wing nut screws and the screws were too short to secure them with a nut. Replacement of the screws was not an option. So Amazing �鶹�� sent me a replacement--same problem. And then another, same problem. Upshot is I changed my order to this one. Different manufacturer and a little different style. Well folks, let me tell you right out of the box the difference in quality was not only apparent but was amazing. The safety rail went together seamlessly. Even for a 75 year old lady with arthritis, I had it together in less than 10 minutes. This Safety rail can be used in the shower, at the bathroom sink or on the commode. I am using it even in the kitchen. I do have a walker but the safety rail is not prone to move if I stumble (which by design a walker does). It is a blessing to help me keep my independence. Also, at the commode, you can easily raise and lower the seat and lid without having to move the safety rail, This rail is STRONG AND STURDY. The only thing I would change if I could would be to make it about 1 1/2 inches wider so it would fit around the commode shelves. The safety rail will work with the shelves, but with the shelves, the rail won't fit flush with the commode tank. There is a gap of about an inch between the tank and the safety rail's cross bar when the commode shelves are in place. On my particular commode this prevents me from being able to lower the commode lid. Still I give this a resounding 5 star revue. Take my advice and just go ahead and order the Carex Safety Rail to begin with. The material from which it is made is heavier, the hardware is better quality and the overall design is better thought out. It is far superior to the other �鶹�� offering! I guess it comes back to the old saw--You get what you pay for. And thank goodness for Amazing �鶹�� for genuine customer service!
