Very easy to clean up the soap scum and rise off the hair. It's stable and safe. Much better than the shower chair that I had which I found the the soap scum and hair were caught inside the tubes (legs) and they are very difficult to clean which can accumulate bacteria easily. I would recommend this shower bench to anyone who have senior in their household.

My tub is very narrow and this adjusted enough to work. It’s easy to remove and easy to put in place because it’s so lightweight and has a handle. Great quality in my opinion. Be sure to check the construction of your tub surround if that’s what you have because a ledge is needed on both sides for this bench to work.

I broke my fibula needed something so I could get in the bathtub with one leg and keep the other one out. Looked at renting one they wanted the cost of this on its own for one month. Know that I’ll need it for more than a month and I will have it for in the future if needed or for age usage, I don’t like it tub wall. You just have to use your head and not sit at the outside edge and it works fine.

I broke my ankle and once the cast came off, I wanted something I could use where I could be more in the shower and close the curtain. (I had a sliding chair b4 and while it was good, it was very tall and even at 5'10 i couldn't get both feet to touch the tub)

This is easy to assemble, very secure when in the tub and super easy to remove so others can shower without it. Stable, doesn't wobble like the chair did, easy to get on and slide over. Tuck the shower curtain under my butt and water doesn't escape. Love it!

Our bathroom doesn't have enough space for the type of transfer bench that sits in and out of the tub. Also with the sloped backrest inside the tub makes it difficult for any type of seat that has legs inside of the tub. The way this seat sits on the edges of the tub works perfectly. If the rubber stops on the inside that secure the seat between the lips of the tub are left slightly loose it is still stable and allows the seat to easily be moved forward or back to the wall for others to use the shower in the tub. It is also very easy to lift out and put standing against the wall if someone wants to fill the tub up to lay and soak while reading a book.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE Best Buy!
Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2012

I had my doubts about this product. I'm in my 40s, and didn't want something in my bath that would say "Grandma" to all my friends. Still, I needed something that would make showers comfortable. I looked into the teak benches, but reviews said that the joints loosened after a year or two, and replacing them that often would've been too expensive. I considered the little stools that sit on the floor of the tub - but I am a pretty big gal and didn't think they'd be comfortable - plus, they were ugly and I didn't like the idea of being so low.

When I saw the Carex Portable Shower Bench, I was skeptical - but the price was so low, I figured I'd take a chance and just use it until I found something I liked better. The bench arrived fine, but required a bit of putting together. The instructions had no words - only diagrams, and figuring out what they wanted me to do took a few minutes - but I finally made sense out of it. The knobs which adjusted the bench to fit the sides of the tub went together very easily. The rubber pads that protect the tub were a bigger challenge. There were four options for their location, depending on how the seat fit the tub. We have a clawfoot tub that's against the wall, so the fit is different on each side, and I used different settings. The rubber pads are largest in the center and fit tightly, so I had to get my husband to help get them in place - my hands weren't strong enough. Still, total time to having the bench completely assembled took less than 15 minutes.

The bench is wide, and the height is perfect. My first shower was difficult, but once I discovered that it words best to have my BACK to the showerhead, things suddenly fell into place. It is so much more comfortable than sitting directly on the tub floor, and all my shower goods can be set right next to me on the bench. No more lost scrubbies! The subtle sculpting of the seat makes it very comfortable.

I adjusted the knobs so they slide easily, but tightly, into the tub. The bench is VERY secure - there is no way it's going to slide sideways. The plastic is high quality, not dry and brittle as I'd feared. It is VERY solid. And, when my shower is over, I simply place it out of sight - since it's only about four inches thick, it doesn't require a lot of space to be hidden away.

I like this shower bench so well, in fact, that I've stopped looking for an alternative. Hard as it may be to believe, the low priced Carex is actually just perfect for me and I can't imagine anything which could improve upon it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shower bench is very sturdy
Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2018

This shower bench just fits on my bathtub. My tub is not small, so that surprised me. The reason is that the lip of the tub on the side of the tile wall is narrow, pushing the bench out towards the other tub wall.

The bench does fit. It is quite sturdy and I am not a small woman. I feel so much more secure than I would with a bench that just sits down into the tub on its bench legs. It is solid... not going to move anywhere, and not going to fall down, no matter how much I move around on it. Yet removing it would be simple.

I can't pull myself up from the bench in the tub because the bench is too low for me to do so, so instead I swing my legs around and out of the tub where I have nonslip pads and then use my toilet back and sink etc to get out of the tub. This works because the bench is so secure.

I had one of those approximately $500 electric bath chairs that lower and raise you into and out of the tub. This works far better for me. I got this bench because the bath chair won't work unless the back is reclined, and that pushes the chair so far forward in the tub that there is almost no room to bathe my legs. With this bath bench, there is plenty of room.

Also the electric bath chair felt very insecure and flimsy with the "wings" on each side of the seat, whenvever I tried to bathe my legs or even just get into or out of the bath chair.

Again, this bench is VERY SECURE. It is SOLID SUPPORT as I get in or out of the tub, as well as while I bathe myself.

For years I have been unable to really scrub my legs. Now I can. Before I could reach my legs and feet but was too unsteady to scrub. I can stand, but cannot pull myself up from the floor, so cannot just sit in the tub.

I highly recommend this particular bath bench that is secured to the tub walls and sits on top of the tub wall. I use a shower head with shower hose to reach me.

And this cost only around $40, not $500 or a thousand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works, but with a caveat
Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2025

Update: I have found something that has so far helped prevent the board from popping out. At the end of my shower, right before sitting down, I tighten the bolts again. (I do check their tightness before getting into the shower, but they seem to loosen after I get in.) I’ve only tried this once but it worked, and is so far the only thing that keeps the board in place.

    Original review:
I sprained my ankle while out for a walk last week. It’s a moderate (probably grade 2) sprain, so I don’t need to be seated while showering…but couldn’t get in and out of my enormous clawfoot bath tub without stepping one foot at a time, thereby putting weight on my bad foot. I searched for mobility devices that would help me and this was the only thing I found that works for my tub. It was very easy to install (it took me about five minutes, with no tools), and I’m happy to have it…but there’s one issue. When I go to get out of the tub, I sit, slide my legs to the side of the tub, and get down on the floor, using the towel rack to steady myself. Pretty simple, but the far end of the bench *almost always* pops out and tips upward (like a seesaw) when I do this. I tested the seat several times before showering and it happened almost every time; it has happened every time I’ve actually used it to shower, and actually the bench seems MORE likely to pop out when it’s wet. I’ve tightened the bolts again and again but I don’t think there is any way to prevent it; it’s a function of the design (brackets only on the inside of the tub) and undoubtedly my weight (220 pounds) and the fact that there are several inches of clearance between my feet and the floor when I’m sitting on the bench does not help. It makes me nervous enough that I only take showers if my partner is at home and awake so he can help me should the bench pop out dramatically and spill me onto the floor. I think as long as I move slowly and am careful that won’t happen, but I’m a little anxious about falling after the spill that caused this sprain.

Anyway. I almost never write product reviews (almost all of my reviews here were yanked from Goodreads) but this feels significant. I really appreciate this product for giving me back a little bit of normalcy after several days of washcloth baths and dry shampoo, and it doesn’t have to absolutely perfect because if all goes well I’ll only need it for, at most, a few weeks. But I do think the design could be a little better and safer.

Well made and so easy to assemble I did it without directions. Easily handles my 200+ weight. It is a fixed length with adjustable grippers that hold it to the inside of the tub. One thing, if you have sliding glass doors on your tub, this may be a problem as on my tub it hangs over he edge 1.5 inches. This is not a problem for me with a plastic shower curtain. I like the fact that I can sit on it and put the plug in the tub fill it and soak my feet. I bought it since if I sit down on the bottom of the tub it is too hard to get back out.
