One thing i love with prime lenses are they're commonly cheap. But compared with the other RF prime lenses out there, the RF 50mm is the cheapest. The quality is very good for its price range, and if you've been used to standard zoom lenses, its worth getting out your comfort zone and using a single focal length lens. This will definitely help improve your photography techniques. It's very light too!

Coming from the old Canon EF 50mm f1.8 Mark II, this RF version is a giant improvement! It is significantly sharper wide open, very useable (unlike the old lens), and AF is considerably faster and quieter (still not on the same level as a USM motor though). It's slightly heavier, but still a very light and compact lens, that you don't feel the difference in actual use.

Works well for video, but in low-light and in a busy environment (wedding) you need to know how to use the AF or it will constantly hunt, and it hunts slowly. Filming constantly wide open at 1/48s, high ISO, hand-held with digital IS, the R5C produces some very nice footage using this lens! For $200 this is the best bang for the buck lens you can get.

Now for people who complain about lack of warranty and deducting stars for that, you are paying here about $100 less than buying it from an authorized dealer, so if you want that 1 year warranty, you are more than welcome to pay the extra $100. In my experience lenses almost never fail in the 1st year. If there is something wrong with a lens, it will be like that as soon as you open the box, and �鶹�� offers you a 1 month return period. If that's not enough, there is a 4 year 3rd party warranty you can buy for $43, if you're so inclined. My lens arrived new and works flawlessly.

Literal content of Canon lens box with no sign of sealing of any kind:

Lens 50mm with front lid and mounting ring lid
Little cheap plastic bag for lens
Two plastic box spacers

No papers of any kind such as instructions, warranty, manual, certificate, anything.

While trying it for the first time (on Canon EOS RP), the lens started to make a funny noise (watch video). Camera shows an error. Noise starts right away, doesn't matter if camera switch "off" (watch video). No idea. Tried very carefully different procedures but nothing worked.

Proceeded to start return.
Return a bit bumpy, they thought I did something wrong, but successful.

Conclusion
Never buy this one here. Its quality (from the outside) looks immaculate. All looks right, "Made in Malaysia", it even had a serial number. But, the thing must be terribly wrong in the inside. It started doing the noise right away and never had a chance to take a picture with it. As others mention, this may be a "Grey Market whatever it means.
