Detaching the brake caliper from the hub is fairly straightforward, as most calipers are held on by just two bolts. Some cars use brake pad wear sensors, which should be removed before you do anything. Once the caliper is unbolted, secure it to the car with your rope or bungee cord in such a way that there’s slack in the brake line (stretching or damaging it could cause problems down the line)
If you fail to compress your pistons before putting the new pads in, they simply fit back onto the rotor. Make sure you put the pads on facing the correct direction. If the caliper is on sliders, always make sure those are clean. The pads' manufacturer will likely outline a bedding procedure found either printed on the box or included in the installation instructions.
