Cakes for the Grump: A Fake Dating Slow-Burn Romantic Comedy Kindle Edition
鶹
Don’t move in with your off-limits, grumpy, powerful, handsome boss.
Or agree to be his fake fiancé.
And under no circumstances…bake him any of your delicious cakes.
When my landlord kicks me out of my apartment, my dreams of making it as a chef are ruined—until my cocky, iron-fisted boss offers me his luxury penthouse kitchen.
The price? He’s my new roommate.
Now I’m living with Luke Abbot, fake-dating him so he’s a “family man” to his investors.
How bad can it be? Well, he just walked out of the shower all wet, naked, and gorgeous without a towel...
And now he’s rolling up his sleeves and cracking eggs as my sous-chef. What’s worse is how he takes care of me when I get hurt and cares for me like I'm the only one.
But is this all to butter me up for his business deal? Or has my stone-faced grump stopped faking it without telling me...

- Reviewed in Canada on July 13, 2025I loved this book. The writing and humour were great, I loved the characters. In their own flawed ways (like the rest of us) they came to grips with their issues, connected with friends and family, and found their way to a better place to be themselves and be together. Well done, and off to the next in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delight
Verified PurchaseSometimes you come across a book where everything works seamlessly. This is one of those books. It was a Stuff Your Kindle pick, and then I selected it for an alphabet reading challenge. I am so very glad I did.
Slow burn, when done well, is divine. This book? It does it really well. The dialogue and chemistry between Rita and Luke was wonderful. It developed so naturally that you absolutely wanted them to get together. I 100% believed in them.
While this story is primarily about Rita and Luke, it is not the only love story in the book. There is a deep love for Punjabi culture expressed in this book in a way that only someone who shares that love themself can do. It was absolutely magical to read the second half of the book as Ms Kaur shared her love of a culture she clearly knows well.
Thank you for sharing this story - it was a delight to read and I am so glad I picked it up. The bar for excellence has been raised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something Special
Verified PurchaseI'm not familiar with Punjabi culture, so I learned a few things from reading this. This is a wonderful story that will have you sighing, smiling, laughing, and I even cried! Loved every bit of it! Good job!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved this love story!
Verified PurchaseI’m so glad I read this book. I’m not sure how I found it, but I’m so glad I did. It will be in my list of top favorite romances. Rita’s character seemed so real, and she had the biggest heart. I would love to be her friend (and try her food!). Her struggles were relatable and I found her developing love for Luke helped break down her projected appearance of “I’m always ok, everything’s great!” I also appreciate, as an adult child of an alcoholic, that her dad wasn’t miraculously “cured,” but that Rita was able to process and work on healing with the help of a great therapist.
And of course Luke has my heart. As he says at one point, Rita taught him to be human. To breathe. I loved them both, and I’m sorry the book is over

5.0 out of 5 stars All the feels
Verified PurchaseThis was a delightful read. I couldn't put it down. So much more than a grumpy sunshine trope. Well-developed characters, funny and emotional. I am going to be reading more of this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars The characters come to life in this outstanding, emotionally deep sometimes funny romance.
Verified PurchaseIf you don't fall in love with Rita you didn't read the book. Slow to start but so worth the wait. An emotional rollercoaster that I couldn't stop reading to see what happened next. Exceptionally well written where every word adds to the last. A+ for vocabulary and character development!
