The Butcher Game: A Dr. Wren Muller Novel Paperback – Aug. 12 2025
鶹
Instant #1 New York Times Bestseller
From the New York Times bestselling author and cohost of chart-topping true crime podcast Morbid comes the thrilling book two in her national bestselling series, told from the dueling perspectives of a notorious serial killer and a medical examiner seeking justice.
Destruction follows the ruthless serial killer, Jeremy Rose, the Bayou Butcher, as he heads north to evade capture for his horrific crimes. As he seeks safe harbor with a former friend, he remains focused on unfinished business with forensic pathologist Dr. Wren Muller, the only target who’s ever escaped him―twice. But not this time. He’s determined to make Wren suffer, and he’s promised to make her play by his own twisted rules.
Still in shock over the harrowing encounter with her old nemesis, Wren is on forced medical leave in New Orleans, attempting to mend the deep scars of her traumatic past. But with growing evidence that Jeremy is leaving a fresh trail of mutilated victims across Massachusetts, Wren realizes the best way to heal is to renew her pursuit of this vicious killer. She sets her sights on Jeremy, only to discover that she may have walked directly into his trap. As their twisted cat-and-mouse game rachets up to a violent clash of good versus evil, Wren prepares to sacrifice everything to bring Jeremy to justice.
With intense true-to-life details from autopsy technician and Morbid podcast cohost, Alaina Urquhart, The Butcher Game is a gripping addition to the New York Times bestselling Dr. Wren Muller series.

THE BUTCHER GAME has been on the top of my TBR list from the moment I heard it was set to publish, so needless to say, I was very excited to finally have the opportunity to read it!
THE BUTCHER GAME is told in alternating dual POV, Dr. Wren Muller’s and Jeremy’s. I love Wren – she’s a forensic pathologist, which is really cool to read about because this is the first author I’ve read who shares a pathologist’s POV as the main character in a thriller. Wren is also a bold, courageous, and intelligent woman. Jeremy is a serial killer who has his eyes set on the ultimate victim – Wren. She’s escaped him twice and he’s determined to not let her escape a third time. Jeremy is charming and charismatic, like all the prolific serial killers. It was very interesting to see him in ‘action’ with many of the scenes having me biting my nails.
The setting of this novel features several eerie locations that help amp up the tension and creates great atmosphere. The plot is fast-paced, gritty, and twisty. The ending left me worried, and eager to get my hands on book three! Last but not least, the audiobook narration is excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars I tell everyone I know about this book and I have no regrets
Verified PurchaseALAINNAAAAAAA. Girl. You know what you did. We love you, we love your book, we fg love Morbid. No spoilers but this book has a 10/10 plot, characters, and everything in between. We know Alaina can tell a damn good story but her writing is more than magnificent. I loved all the little educational bits throughout the story and I truly could not put it down, much like the first book. I hope everyone else that read it loved and appreciated this piece of art as much as I did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love Alana and her books
Verified Purchase***Thank you Netgalley and Zando for an ARC copy of the second book in the Dr. Wren series.***
First absolutely need to preface that you HAVE to read the first book in the series before reading this one. Heck, I did a year ago and I had to go back to the first book and use the search feature to remember certain things.
The book grabbed me from the beginning but after about 60% through it started slowing down for me and the details became drawn out. I loved the 2 POV’s between Wren and the killer but disliked certain outcomes near the last 20%. I was wanting more to the storyline and expecting different conclusions or drama that never happened which I felt would have made the book more intense. All and all a great addition to the series and will absolutely read the next or honestly anything Alaina writes!
Warning there is a cliffhanger ending!
