Bright red light with a sleek and simple design
This rear bike light illuminates brightly but not in a harsh sense, you will definitely be seen from behind without blinding people. The first click of the power button signals a green led if the battery is charged, holding the power button turns on the bike light and from there you can switch to a variety of signals and modes, from fast flashes, to a stationary light, staggered pulses and my favorite one, the fading on and off setting. The light is powerful, comes with a protective waterproof cover for the usb-c port to recharge it (no batteries required), and long lasting. It comes with instructions and attachments to ensure you're able to stick the light onto your bike/pack/or helmet. Overall I recommend this light if you need a rear light, however I wish it was paired with the front light for uniformity.

    Cons :
    - It's really easy to mount it on a seat post, but if you have a saddle bag, it doesn't have an option to "clip" on it... I had to be creative with the mounting.

    This review is for the Rear Bike Light Smart Bike Tail light by AKALATE

    I'll admit, when I first looked at this product on the 鶹 Vine product list, i wanted just a tail light fr my son's eBike. Then I noticed the "brake light" feature listed. I was very skeptical and thought there was no way this thing was going to work as advertised. Pleased to report I was wrong.

    There must be an accelerometer built into this that detects when the forward momentum of the bike is ceasing or the fact that when you brake on a pedal bike, there is a bit of a lurch... I can't figure out how else a non-wired light would function as a brake light. In any case, it works and outputs at full brightness for a few seconds before resuming whatever mode it was in previously flashing, random flash, dimmer solid light, etc.)

    The light itself is bright and has a built in battery that can be charged using the included USB C cable. There are a couple of mounting options including directly onto the back of your seat post or a handy bracket is included that allows you to attach the light to the bottom rails of your seat. It does not allow for a vertical mount of the light, but that is minor.

    The light itself seems fairly well made - I have no concerns for its waterproof-ness. There are six different modes this light can operate in: solid, and five different flashing modes, which are anywhere from cool to annoying if I was a motorist behind you with this on your bike, however being noticed is the name of the game when it comes to dim-light bike riding - you need to get the attention of motorists out there, especially if you use your bike to commute to and from work, and especially as the days grow short and more and more of that commute is committed during dusk or full-dark hours.

    If this were just a simple battery-operated light I might think that the $30 Cdn price tag was a bit high, but the brake sensor/accelerometer bring it back to being a good buy. Buy with confidence, this light is bright and should last you a long time!

    Been testing this for a limited period of time since winter came hard in Canada and I had to stop riding, but in the couple of hours that I got, I can say it's impressive so far! The brake sensor feature is super handy - lights up bright when you stop, which is perfect for city riding. Love that it turns off automatically when parked and wakes up with a quick shake.

    Installation was easy with two mount options, and you get six different light modes to choose from. Haven't tested it in rain yet (thanks, winter!), but it's supposed to handle downpours no problem.

    Only owned it for a couple hours of fall riding, so I'll update in spring, but first impressions are great. The smart features actually work, battery life seems solid, and it feels well-made. Just takes a bit to learn all the features.

    Definitely worth checking out if you want to ride safe in the night without breaking the bank.
