I had high hopes for this book. The plot sounded like it had some great potential. Sadly there was too much of the characters thinking and observing their surroundings and not enough talking to each other for me. Also, The amount the Heroine and Hero were actually together on the page wasn't often enough for me to get to feel their chemistry. The story shifted more about Tara (the Heroine's sister) than I would have liked. As well as other secondary characters more so than the leads at some points. I read till 70% and lightly skimmed the rest.

This is a newer author to me, so I don't have a lot to compare of hers. The next book in the series also sounds interesting.. as per the lead up to it at the end of this book. I may give her another shot.. perhaps this was just the first book laying the foundation for the series.. as there was too much happening, i thought, that took away from the lead characters story.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book!!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book. I am not a fan of love triangles and this was more like a love pentagon!

I loved Aileen and Blake. They are truly kindred spirits and the love they had for each other was beautiful.

I usually have a hard time reading anything with "cheating" and avoid books with that content like the plague. But this was different. I suppose technically Blake was cheating on Tara. But it didn't seem like cheating.... Maybe it was because Tara jilted him and was pursuing her "first love".

I don't know why but this incredibly complicated love pentagon was extremely riveting to me as a reader. I had no idea how this was going to end well and it was apparent that at least one person was going to be left heart broken.

While I agree with other reviewer that Tara was a selfish, self centered brat - I didn't hate her. I kinda felt sorry for her and I almost understood her reasons for not letting Blake go. I didn't like it - but I understood it.

What I liked best was that even though Blake and Aileen were soul mates and were desperately in love. Aileen would not let Blake lose his honor by breaking his betrothal to Tara - she loved him enough to care how losing his honor would hurt him and he loved her enough to do what she asked.

Thankfully, those who are meant to be end up together and someone grows up a bit.

I would recommend this book and I don't so that lightly - Cathy Maxwell is a hit or miss author for me. Treasured Vows is one of my favorite books of all time - but The Earl Claims His Wife was a wall banger and I HATED it. But this book is up there with Treasured Vows.

This novel kept me wanting to keep reading - loved the story line. I love easy reading novels that have no descriptive sex scenes but have a bit of humor and likeable characters - and this was all of that.
It was a nice read and I'm off to read more of Cathy Maxwell's novels.

This was a nail biter right to the end and then Tara gets her just desserts. Very entertaining and so typical of the times with marriages of convenience. Good read.
