- Reviewed in Canada on January 19, 2021Verified PurchaseThis Breville smoke gun as absolutely amazing. It's an incredibly low price for such a great product. As all Breville products, the build quality is amazing. The smoke gun is very simple to use and easy to clean before storage. And the amount of smoke it produces with such a small amount of wood chips is simply short of magic. Great results in terms of smoke quality in the food, and flavor it adds to all foods and drinks fantastic. And the box comes with MANY recipes and tips. I've always had a good impression of Breville products, and this one is just amazing ad all the other Breville products I've seen and used. Amazing low price for an even more amazing product.
- Reviewed in Canada on November 6, 2023Verified PurchaseSo far I've used this smoker for cocktails and found it to be effective and easy to use. The hose makes it very easy to get the smoke where you want it. Having the battery operated "suction" makes it very easy to get it lit and create a steady / surprisingly dense stream of smoke. A small pinch of wood chips, in my experience, will get you about 10 seconds of smoke. Containing the smoke is relatively easy too - just cover the item with cling wrap or a plastic bag. Clean up is really easy as the metal basket that holds the wood chips is detachable.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 5, 2024Verified PurchaseI saw this on a few cooking shows and it works great. You can have slight smoke flavour in many types of dishes. It does not replace a long slow cook smoker. Super easy to use and easy clean up. I use mine with a clear plastic cake topper.
- Reviewed in Canada on November 18, 2022Verified Purchase1. Don't overload the hopper. Less is better, you don't need much and you can always do it again. If you overload the hopper it simply won't work.
2. Don't waste money on a cloche. Seriously. A tupperware container with a hole (and grommet if you have them) works great.
3. Use a large ziploc for big items. Re-usable and inexpensive.
4. Make your own chips. It's easy to whittle down a branch or, better, use someone else's Blendtec to make chips :)
I like this guy. I use it for cocktails of course, but also for adding wood smoke to pizzas cooked in my Breville Pizziaolo. Works great. It's a little pricey for what it is, granted, but Breville makes a solid product and I like the company. This is obviously not an everyday tool but for what it does, it does it well.
- Reviewed in Canada on August 11, 2023Verified PurchaseOverall good product but will take a lot of time to get used to. It creates a nice Smokey flavour but be warned that if used indoors, your house will have the Smokey scent as well for a little bit so be mindful of that when using it.
- Reviewed in Canada on September 24, 2023Verified PurchasePair with this a cloche and you are impressing guests with smokey cocktails! You can also smoke food and do other things with it. Worth it 100% if you want something like this. Great quality and come with recipe cards. Also come with sample wood chips.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 18, 2017Verified PurchaseI got this smoker cause it was for me the perfect solution to a space saver device that smoked food without the need to have an outside oven size smoker or even worse cause the fire trucks to be alerted due to excessive smoke emanated by certain smokers. The idea behind this smoker is very straight forward. Put the wood in the cast iron holder light it up and push the buttonto fan the smoke from the burning wood into a container with food. The smoker works with 4 AAA batteries included and has also three handy mesh wire in case you end up burning them with the wood. I personally got one from an old faucet since its metal seems to be sturdier than the ones that come with the kit. You get a tonne of recipes both in French and English. I have smoked, fish, meat, mashed potatoes, popcorn and sauces. I have to smoke cheese. I am absolutely taken by Applewood. The aroma is simply to die for. I wish Breville would come with a simple dome that lets you put your food in it seal and insert the tube because you have to get creative to get the BEST smokey effect. I also tend to use the higher fan speed and smoke things more than once both pre cooked and post cooked. BUT what I love about this smoker it is genuine. One advice I would give to prospective buyers when using it make sure you do not have it on the edge of the table as the tube is somewhat long and you do not want to end up with the unit on the floor. Also elevate your food so the tube goes straight. Other than that have fun.... smoking food. I know I do and it is a true treat every time.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 16, 2020Verified PurchaseToo easy and fantastic in my bachelor suite. I just put pinches of chips and the smoke that escapes is negligible. Just have your window open. I can do it, so can you! I did smoked chicken on the rotisserie in my convection oven, and I swear it was bbq'd. The recipe cards are high quality and even the ice cream recipe is from scratch. Aioli and a chutney, both smoked with quality ingredients and then there are all those other recipes. as a student, I am on a fixed income, so this was a major purchase for me. As an apartment dweller, this is the closest to bbq I will get, and WOW WHAT BBQ FLAVOR!

5.0 out of 5 stars High quality and works perfectly
Verified PurchaseWith dozens of similar items on 鶹 running from $19.95 to $300, I chose to go with the Breville brand at a reasonable cost ($69 when I purchased it). I did not want a cheap, easily breakable item at lower cost, especially considering the use of this thing (for me) was for entertaining, and would be used in front of guests. I have other Breville products and am very happy with those products and with their customer service. Made in America, and when I called to ask for some hand-holding on one of their products, the phone rang twice and a person answered the phone that I could understand, and she helped without a single transfer to another person. Amazing in this day and age.
As to the smoker itself: Works extremely well. I was a little surprised that the smoker does not have a heating element, so you light the shavings with a lighter or match, but it was extremely easy to do. Like lighting a pipe (if you are familiar with that): shavings in the bowl, flip the switch to start the blower, hold the match to the bowl, and the shavings light immediately. After thinking about it a while, I think I prefer this method (over my incorrect assumption), since it follows the KISS principle and works very well. I will probably buy a cheap lighter and just keep it in the box with the smoker.
On smoking with it: I used it for making smoked cocktails. I had envisioned inserting the tube in the cocktail and the smoke bubbling through it, another incorrect assumption. The manual specifically says not to do this. I followed the manual's suggestion and put all of the mixed drink ingredients in a shaker, added the smoke, and shook the cocktail. I shook it a little longer than I normally would, so more smoke would get absorbed. I used a glass shaker, which made great presentation. With experimentation (oh, the sacrifices we make), I was able to recreate a local restaurant's smoked cocktail exactly. The smoke is very detectable in the drink, both taste and bouquet, and does change the experience.
As to quality of the smoke, not sure what I expected, but the smoke was very "clean" - white and no particulates. It also stayed around a long time, surprisingly. 15 minutes later, the shaker still contains smoke. I expected either the smoke would be consumed by the shaking, or that it would cool and settle in a relatively short time. Neither happened.
As to the quantity of smoke: this was the biggest surprise. Like a previous reviewer, I purchased additional wood chips, but after making 6-8 cocktails, had barely made a dent in the sample wood chips it came with. It also comes out quickly. I expected it to build as the wood ignited and to take just a little time to build up some smoke (clearly I had no idea what to expect), but it begins pouring out immediately. So, you need to be prepared. For the first one I was surprised and had to quickly get it into the shaker. For follow-on drinks, I moved the operation next to the range hood with the exhaust fan already on. I did not set off a smoke alarm the first time, but it is not appealing to have smoke hanging in the kitchen. The smoke does appear to be slightly heavier than air, or at least buoyancy neutral.
From the picture, you can tell the shape of the shaker I used. This was excellent, since this particular shaker has a screw-off cap. I settled on a method of removing the cap, holding the tip of the hose right up to the opening, and then cracking the seal on the top so that air could escape. All of the smoke stayed in the shaker, and as soon as it started to come out of the shaker seal, I stopped the smoker and resealed the top. This was an ideal shaker for this application, which I just happened to have, so I got lucky.
Absolutely top marks all around. I have used it only that one evening, but for 6-8 shakers (12-16 drinks), and am very happy with it. I bought it for the cocktails, but definitely plan to try it on food. Smoked cheese looks appealing, and I also make baby-back ribs that I intend to try it with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Smoke Gun, sturdy, produce dense smoke
Verified PurchaseI’ve cooked some smoked chicken/carne/fish in my apartment with many other methods before this smoke gun, and it turns out that using a smoke gun is the easiest, least hazardous, and most effective way. By saying that I mean the smoke is very dense with a smoke gun compared to burn chips without this mechanism, and the smoke flavor can stick to the food very well in a short period of time; also the mechanism brings out “cold smoke”, which is different from smoke arises directly from open flame and triggers the fire alarm, this dense cold smoke with aroma sinks down and stick to the food. This breville smoke gun is easy to set up and sturdy for use. The smoke flow is consistent. Probably not worthy every penny but still I feel it’s a good investment that can stay for a life long time of use.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buy a sage smoke gun, same product but cheaper
Verified PurchaseDon't bother buying the brevilli gun. The same company (sousvide tools) does the exact same product (made by same company) but it's branded as sage smoke gun. £5 cheaper! Save yourself £5 and get that one. Exact same product.
