Great Addition To Our Kitchen!
What a time saver this sandwich press is! Sandwiches, like grilled cheese and tuna melts, are done in half the time it would take to pan fry. The floating hinge is great. It stops the top plate from crushing my creations. I've been turned off by other presses in the past because they crush one side of the sandwich, push the filling out, and unevenly toast. Not this one, I'm very impressed by the evenness of the toasting. There is also a setting for an open faced sandwich as well. Its great for reheating cold pizza. I like that there is an actual power switch, as many small appliances of this type just require to be plugged in. It can get a little hot above the power switch, I have burnt my finger a couple of times turning it off. There's also a "ready" light so I don't start cooking too early. The cooking surface is non-stick, so just a wipe with a cloth will do. There is also a lock setting to help keep the appliance together for upright storage. Overall, I think this small appliance is well constructed and sturdy. I'm excited to try making some fresh toast, quesadillas, garlic bread, even crab cakes! If I could change one thing, I'd make the cooking plates removable for easier cleaning, but I'm just being too picky. Highly recommended!

    Scrambled, sunny side up, lightly over eggs, bacon, chicken, pork chops, hamburgers, meatballs, steak, kabobs, French toast, grilled cheese (lots of grilled sandwiches) fried onions, fish, shrimp, What can I say? I tried out a number of machines and finally landed on this. My children all now bought their own and love them. even the grandchildren use them. It does not have a grease spout, but that is what makes it so versatile and so much easier to clean; no dark drains for things to grow in. Really good, well thought out product. May mine live forever.

    I've had mine for about a year now. Our only complaints are it is heavy for my wife who does not have a lot of strength and it is a shade too large for our kitchen cupboards so we have to store it elsewhere. We use it mainly for grilled cheese sandwiches and it does this very well without squishing the bread as some models do. We had one that clamped down on the sandwich and sealed it on the edges and diagonally. It tended to leave a mess in the grill from leakage. This one, the Breville, puts a small weight on the sandwhich which grills it without squishing. Takes 3 min. for a good toast. Room to do two if the bread is normal size. Easy to clean and actually just a wipe with a damp cloth is all that is needed. Locks when stored and stands up but sometimes needs to lean on something. My main complaint is the cord stores wrapped in the bottom and an addition 1-2 mm would make it easier to wrap the cord which now is a very tight fit.

    I love gadgets and have a million of them. Most are delegated to the basement storage (not too far but also not on hand). The appliances that get to stay in the kitchen must earn their place. This one has! I use it less for sandwiches than I do for grilling veggies but it does a very nice job with that and I can run an assembly line of veggies to grill. It also does a fine job of toasting tortillas out of the fridge. The most important thing I learned is to make sure that the veggies are all the same height - otherwise sone get toasted while others not.

    Last night I took it out on the table and let my guests assemble a quesadilla with grilled veggies and cheese and then heat it on the Breville. Worked well for a party of 3 and everyone got exactly the ingredients and amounts of their choice. Cleanup was a breeze. And now I’ll tuck it away inside my cabinet.

    Update: still going strong after a year. Last night I made chicken tender satay (no skewers needed). It’s a great size for me and doesn’t take a lot of space. I can cook right outside on the table. Cleans up easily with a damp cloth or paper towels.

There are no fancy electronic touch buttons to fail, just a simple on/off toggle switch, and a light that goes green when the press is ready. You can make paninis, grilled cheese sandwiches, and melts with it. The heating plates do not detach, but that's not a drawback because dripped cheese won't stick to them. The plates are easily wiped down with a dampened paper towel or sponge once they've cooled.

    A couple of precautions:
    (1) Unplug this press after every use. Even a slight, inadvertent touch can toggle the off/on switch to on. If you don't unplug the press, there's a chance you'll accidentally turn it on when you don't mean to use it.
    (2) The press's metal body gets very hot when the press is in use (another reason to unplug the press when you're not using it). Be very careful to avoid touching the press's metal sides whenever it's on and especially when you're turning it off.
